Scringo vs Admob

Hi guys, I understand that Scringo "socialises" your app, but I'm assuming most of you all just use it for ad revenue, if not please enlighten me (the unenlightened) :). Is scringo better than Admob. I used Admob since I can actually get money in SA. Whats the advantages of using Scringo and is it better to use that. I don't want to use Admob AND scringo unless its better of course. Thanks in advance for the info. Abrie

To me they're apples and oranges, but I may not be completely utilizing the tools... I look at scringo as a socializing extension to my app; through scringo integration, users can tweet or post or stuff like that, without having to leave my app. I think there may be some kind of advertisement network included, but I haven't looked at it 'like that'. AFAIK, it doesn't cost anything, but if it ever does, I'll drop it like a hot potato. Admob is an advertising network, like a fair amount of others, that pay you for some kind of trigger, be it hits, or page loads, or something. Typically it is only for advertisements. I don't implement this kind of tool, so I can't attest to any good or bad from it, or any other ad medium. It is also free, and I have no idea of the possible/real revenue in these things. But that's how I look at them. Other folks embrace them warmly. I'm still sniffing around. Cheers! -- Smug

Thanks Smug for your quick reply, I do agree with you, but it seems Scringo are doing ads now so it is a kinda advertising network now. Did it increase your app download and retention by using scringo? I like most people would love to make apps for free and just get revenue from that. And give people the option to disable that for a fee. But I do know some people just sell apps. I know this is probably for another branch but am sure there are others asking the same question and waiting for a noob like me to step forward :) As my status says. I'm aspiring to become a good developer, so thanks for answering my questions.

Hello Icion, Scringo is basically a socializing platform which helps you to make your app look and have cool features. Yes, it does help in increasing the number of your users and engage and retain them. Most of my apps have scringo integrated in it and it is clear that the users love this feature in my apps. Previously i had made a separate screen for scringo and the user could access it through menu. I had only handful of users using this feature despite of huge download of the app. Ofer, from scringo checked one of my app and suggested me to include scringo in the main screen of the app. I integrated scringo in one of my app as an experiment in the main screen and the number of users soared to hundreds within couple of days. This shows how much your users like scringo. Scringo now has started to show popin ads and more apps tab in it. You can earn extra money with using these features. But if you do not want to use it, its ok. You can turn off these features easily in the dashboard. Scringo is now giving developers a bonus revenue of $25 per app when it crosses mark of 100 users. Admob is one of the oldest ad service i have been using in my apps. Admob is an ad service which pays the developers on click per milli basis. At present you can have only banner ads to display. Admob is used my thousands of developers because of its reliability but it pays less in comparison of other ad services. Admob has been my first choice in all of my apps because of its consistency in the revenue. Its like once you reach a particular figure for eg say $5 per day then the revenue never drops below that figure. The users too do not get annoyed with admob ads unlike other ad services. No push notifications, intertestial or ad walls... just banner ads and thats ok with the users.

SmugWimp and Sandeep made it quite clear, I just add the following: AdMob is a reputable company within the flock of advertising companies. It would be my first choice if I wanted to make money through eCPM. I integrated their framework to iOS to test it, it is good and not too aggressive, just a little aggressive. Definitely better than very aggressive companies like airpush who claim extreme CPM. In order to make some money you have to make sure that you get a lot of downloads yourself, which means you have to invest a lot into marketing of your app, or find some secret formula on how to disseminate it. Scringo is using a different approach: first it gives you the possibility of very easy dissemination of your app with integration of Facebook and Twitter, plus there is a lot of extra cool features like radar, where the users can see each other, etc. This can give you a real kick-start easily compared with an "I make an app and hope that people download it". approach. Scringo also gives you the opportunity to monetize your app by allowing the ads in your app. There is even more that Scringo can do. Whatever you choose is your choise: I like Scringo better, although in some cases AdMob may give more money to your account. Cheers! Frogman

I will try it out, just registered. You all make very valid points. I've gone through their FAQ to see what countries they support but they didn't say anything. It would be a clear choice if scringo does not support my country, but I'm keen to try it out and start socialising

Scringo services are not country dependent so dont worry about it. Any user who uses your app irrespective where he lives in this world, the scringo will will work perfectly in the app.

@Rachelle- I have used scringo in my non-bt apps and they go in the list view class. Earlier i had made a different class for scringo but after some suggestions from Ofer (who is from Scringo) i decided to add scringo in the list view class. You can add scringo directly in a list view plugin for bt apps or any other plugin but the codes go like wise despite which plugin you use it. In the class (.java) file put following codes--- 1. Import following- import com.scringo.Scringo; import com.scringo.ScringoLeftRibbonButton; import com.scringo.Scringo.ScringoIcon; import com.scringo.utils.ScringoLogger.ScringoLogLevel; 2. Activate scringo in the activity method by putting following code- private Scringo scringo = new Scringo(this); 3. Now to initiate sringo call you have to put following codes in your onCreateMethod. Put this code just below setContentView- scringo.setLogLevel(ScringoLogLevel.SCRINGO_LOG_LEVEL_DEBUG); //scringo.setDebugMode(true); scringo.setIcon(ScringoIcon.PERSON); scringo.init(); ((ScringoLeftRibbonButton) findViewById(R.id.activationRibbonLeft)).setScringo(scringo); You will see that the second line of code above is commented out but if you want to test the app in debug mode remove the // from the line and later at the time of releasing the app either comment it out back or remove the line completely. 4. Now put following code in onStart method- scringo.onStart(); 5. And following line of code in onStop method- scringo.onStop(); 6. Now add following line of codes in your layout file of the plugin you use- <com.scringo.ScringoLeftRibbonButton android:id="@+id/activationRibbonLeft" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_marginTop="350dp" /> Thats it, the scringo is all set up now to be used in your app. Remember these instructions go considering that you already have imported scringo library in your eclipse and that you have put all other activities in your manifest and necessary info of your scringo id and facebook, twitter id in your scringo.properties placed in assets folder. If you still face any difficulty in setting up scringo in your app, send me your project file (in zip format), with necessary details as to which screen you want scringo on, app id, fb and twitter id, at sandeepkurne (at) gmail (dot) com. I will put scringo in your app and tell you what changes have i made in which class in detail so next time you can add scringo to your app easily.
