Jquery Mobile - Can it work with BT????

Hey Guys, Still really new to BuzzTouch and trying to figure out the best plan for our apps. We have a number of apps built in jquery mobile all in folders with their respective assets live videos, sound and images. My question is can we take these jquery apps into BT and compile? any help would be great i'm sure its possible and relatively easy - if you know what your doing! Cheers, Nat

Hi @NatHarman, if the jquery project isn't using native functions - accelerometer etc - then it's dead easy to drop the jquery project into the bt project assets folder and open it with a customURL plugin. I haven't tried it with jquery that utilises native functions, but, to coin an old dog-eared phrase, I'm sure it's possible.

GOOD NEWS Nat: Yup you can take it into BT. And it will work great with both iOS and Android as they both completely support jQuery mobile from a version up because of webkit. It'll look great. You'll just have to make some changes to your html. The most important change is that you'll have to address all images, scripts, and other resources in your html files without folder hierarchy. Just think there are no folders and you have to put all your files in a single location. You can of course have something similar to folders in XCODE but its actually called a group and it's for your eyes only (!). When your application compiles all the groups are just flattened out. So make a version of your pages with all resources in the same relative location and use that. Of course there is no such problem in android. There are some more modifications you'll need ... AND NOW THE BAD NEWS: Well, Apple likes to approve native functionality much more than web content. So unless you're doing something very special or you use lots of native functionality next to your web content, they won't let you go that easily! But if you use native plugins from the plugin market or create your own as well, well let's just say there is NO BAD NEWS to worry about!

Thanks guys, The apps are very simple video based apps where each one has a series of videos for the users to watch. So i know i'm being a pain but what do i need to do? - Use the custom HTML plugging - Make sure all links to assets are at root so src="image1.png", src="video1.mov" etc etc - Edit the SOURCE in the HTML pluggin and add my HTML - Where do i place my video and image assets? BT_Docs folder or ?? This is awesome i'm getting excited about saving myself some time now :)

Hi @NatHarman, If your excited now, just wait until you become a @buzztouch member and you can enjoy all the @buzztouch benefits! Out of curiosity, this for Android or IOS? There are plenty of plugins in the @buzztouch market here to assist you with your videos and make it so much easier for you. LA

Android is simple, don't know about iOS. In android just drop the jquery project into the assets folder (css, jquery, html, everything), make sure all the paths are relative (src="image1.png", src="video1.mov"). In the jquery project you'll have an index.html - or some other .html - use the bt customURL plugin to link to it - file:///android_asset/jqueryproject/index.html - that's about it. If you're hosting your jquery project online just link to it with the customURL plugin as you would normally. **Edit** Actually, urls don't need to be relative, or within the containing jquery project, you could link like: file:///android_asset/jqueryproject/images/image1.png file:///android_asset/images/image1.png etc

Cool, do you get all the plugins in the link at the top of this page? Are they all free or do you have to pay for some?

The way Raveys reference the files, is it the same for Xcode? I use a lot of JQuery Mobile in my projects but use the custom URL linking to our server. Would like as much of content to work offline.

hi @Dragon007, It's a different process but it can be done. I don't know iOS but no doubt someone will chime in.

chime chime Jquery in a BT app - no problem, I have it working in an android/ios app in pretty much the same way and as @raveyd described. Only thing to watch out for is how you add the javascript folders & files in Xcode. You need to copy the javascript files in but not make references when prompted, in order that that xcode doesn't try to compile them. Xcode shows the folder tabs in blue if you do it correctly, as opposed to the normal yellow. Cheers, Alan

So is App Code 2.0 're-selling' Buzztouch at $1,000 a go?

I think that's what's unclear - looks like this is the website: http://appcode2.com From what I can tell from the website, they are just selling a webinar that tells you to sign up at Buzztouch - for the low price of $1000. Sad. What's shameful is that it seems that App Code is trying to say that they built Buzztouch.

@raveyd @AlanMac Hey Guys! Sorry i've taken so long to reply i've got 17 app projects on the go and the last few weeks have been crazy! So, out of my 17 apps 7 of them are jquery mobile projects i'm getting stuck getting them to work with buzz touch. If i got this right i simply use the CUSTOM HTML pluggin and copy my index.html to the source code, then how and where do i place all the files i.e. images folder, css and .js files? @AlanMac - you say to not make references to how do i do that? Once this is working guys i'll make some video tutorials for the newbs like me out there! Cheers

Check out stackoverflow - a couple of links here that cover it. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5733883/loading-javascript-into-a-uiwebview-from-resources http://stackoverflow.com/questions/5959941/how-to-add-javascript-file-to-xcode4 When your folder tabs show up as blue (as in the 1st link), it indicates the code has been correctly copied into your project and won't be compiled. There may be a bit if trial and error but once you have it sussed, you'll realise it is easy.

The guys the app code is defo the best course out there for the price tag. I was able to get 100k dloads on android using it. Anyway having a nightmare with getting a jquery project work using the "custom HTML' plug-in, i've made a video showing the app code builder and where i'm getting stuck. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3U_0JB8Pi-E If anyone can help that would be awesome!

Actually I saw it said there that one of the benefits of appcode is the great support forum. Is this the one maybe? And the expert developers that are working for appcode 24 hours...?!! No offense to you my friend Nat, but LevensGardner and the rest of the guys are to the point. If you could shine some light on why they don't solve these basic issues with the "many hours of training videos" advertised inside appcode, I'm sure many of the forum members here at Buzztouch would be more than happy to help you out. I would for sure. I mean appcode has very good marketing apparently, but it can't build on others' support forums! So I would restate my friends words: Glad you found Buzztouch, but not happy with the App Code approach!

I've contacted support at the app code and had a response right away, not an answer but a response that somebody will help out. The support at the app code is very good and like i said i managed to get 100k dloads inside of 4 months just on android thanks to their teachings. So, shall i post a new topic? Do any of you know how to get a jquery mobile project working inside of buzz touch?

You should be able to link to the script files online or in the app via a local reference. are you needing this to be an offline app or is an online method permissae?

Yes its a offline app, so when local reference would this work? <link href="mystyles.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"/> <link href="jquery.mobile.theme-1.0.min.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"/> And where do i place the files? in BT_Docs? Cheers

You would place them in BT_Docs, yes. As for the reference, try taking a look at this thread: http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=D8756AFDE37E98C22D2FF17&currentPage=1

The Images and the Videos must be pulled out of their folder. They must all be at the same level as the HTML, CSS and JS files. In other words, there cannot be any folder/groups in the BT_Docs group. Since you have a lot of files, a better approach is to use Alan Mac's suggestion of the "blue folder" -- see above and read his first suggested link. To acheive it: When dragging your Images folder into the BT_Docs group, when asked by Xcode, tell it to not Copy the files. Instead, you want the files to be "referenced", not copied. -- Niraj

Another tip is to try and make this all work outside buzztouch before dropping it into your project. In some situations, it can even be preferable to host a javascript page externally and then just call it using custom url or html plugins, if you anticipate updates. But in any event, it helps to do this, just confirming all the links between javascript and html are working.
