Plugin Idea

Voting Plugin, I need a plugin that basically is similar to a gallery. Maybe a custom xib and as users swipe through pictures they can vote. I guess the device id would have to be written to the self hosted DB or another DB so that that device is restricted to 1 vote per image. possibly make a html stats page as well. so that wither on a website or page in the app that would show statistics. If anyone knows of any html code out there that does something like this please let me know. Otherwise I may try to work on it myself as I would like this feature since this would take me sometime to figure out if anyone wants to give it a shot let me know :) lol.... thanks much.. Rich

My new "Vote" plugin that's in review might work for you. It's not exactly set up as an image gallery, though. Instead, it uses a menu screen to show items to vote on, and clicking on one lets shows you a screen with a thumbnail picture, a short description, and a webview box (where you could put the full-size image). It's set up to only allow one vote per device, for both iOS and Android. Results are saved to the control panel. See demo video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R6Hllma6DUQ

Wow -- this is nifty! Love how you have used the Control Panel to hold the "submitted form data". Is it still in the queue for the Plugin Market? -- Niraj

I sense a much-needed tutorial on how to send data from the mobile to be saved into the Control Panel. Can you give me the plugin? I will write-up the tutorial. -- Niraj

Lol - now you're getting into the complexities of custom plugin creation. :)

well, here's the thing - it requires a solid knowledge of objective-c, java, and php. I doubt it's something a single how-to could cover. But, here's the basics: A custom php script is created to manipulate data in the database based on input from the app. The app has to have a method to pass string data to the php script in a HTML POST format. (Well, it doesn't *have* to, but it's a good way of doing it). For a voting plugin like this, the app will need to send at least three pieces of data to the php script: 1) the app's guid 2) the screen's guid 3) the child item's guid The php script then queries the database using the three pieces of information, grabs the JSON properties for the child item, changes one of the properties (a 'vote count' property), and then updates the database with the modified data.

That's a terrific explanation. Can you send me the plugin package? It will help me be better positioned for my upcoming BuzzTouch class that I am teaching. If a Student asks, I just need to be generally informed of the techniques and code without faking my way through it. I will understand it quickly when I read the actual PHP, iOS and Java code. ( I've done many PHP web apps in the past ) It's just the short evenings that don't allow me to get comfy with the exact syntax of iOS and Android. Thanks, -- Niraj
