Chat Plugin

Hi. I am making an app for myself and for my workmates and looking for a plugin but i can't find anything like it. So what i am looking for is allow us to leave messages on a "message board" within the app and everyone who is using the app should be able to see this message board. Also anyone who using the app could responde to any message on the message board either on the board or in a private chat window. Is anyone know anything about a plugin like this? Thanks

No plugin as of yet, but if you find a third-party API with this capability, I'd be willing to make a plugin out of it.

I'd start with Github then move to Google. I had started on a chat plugin a while ago and let it drop bc it was complicated and causing crashing issues. I should pick it back up, now that I'm better at making plugins. :)

U can use option one.. Use a unique hash tag.. Make that hash tag a RSS and import.. No coding needed.

Scringo is a social network that us now built into buzztouch. Checkout scringo.com for what it can do.

I built something using Quickblox. I really wanted to get away with Scringo when i first saw it last year - but I didn't see where you had any control of the chat room or users. Could you create private rooms, kick users or delete inappropriate content? I still don't see it there. The only hang-up with Quickblox is that Android doesn't seem to support chat rooms yet. It's more of an IM on that platform still. They have some changes coming to add romms I'm waiting on before I finish it. The head dev at Quickblox Igor is great. He's all over stackoverflow trying to get folks to use thier SDK. The iOS works great tho. Authenticates with Quickblox or FB/Twitter for users. Chat rooms, private chat and even location based chat. This is one of those custom plug-in solutions you really need to get your hands on an app to install properly. Lots of VC's to integrate and dealing with authentication to their backend. Scringo is a much easier implementation - but their backend needs more functionality IMO.

I've implemented Scringo, it has a ton of features, but I haven't seen a traditional forum. Perhaps I'm missing something. I understand that the user can direct message an individual if their avatar and location is shown. BTW the locator is spot on, it provided the EXACT location of my house(perhaps a little too accurate for me:-) I thought I found something with Tal.ki. Simple to install, but the icons show up too small in the Sign In screen - it shows up fine in safari desktop browser. I couldn't figure out how to fix it. Here's how it looks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAYmcppt9to&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Hmm - perhaps I need to make that PubNub plugin I shelved when Scringo came out...

Wish list for Forum plugin would require users to Sign in with Facebook, Twitter, Google, etc.

Check out PubNub and see if it has the features you're looking for. If so, I'll take a stab at it in the next couple of weeks.

At first glance, PubNub seems more geared to Private Chat Applications, Live one-on-one games... sort of Twitter-like. I'm looking for more of an old-school community bulletin board- simple forum for users to post. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong thing in PubNub?

I seem to remember it having an open chat room that could retain chat history. Not quite like a forum, but not like one-on-one chat either.

Right, a chat room that holds comments for 24 hours I believe. The messenger looks interesting. Not what I need, but perhaps a nice alternative to Scringo chat. I'm still not a big fan of how Scringo handles messaging. I'm not comfortable provide my location in order to participate. http://blog.pubnub.com/ditch-your-backend-with-pubnub-messenger/

just did some quick searching on forum hosting and didn't find much that was helpful. Most don't provide any type of api or mobile library. Some have their own app, but not a way to integrate the forum into your app. The best solution I could find was phpBB, which is open-source. But it requires hosting the forum software on your website, which would then allow you to back into it via the app.

Thanks Chris, Did you happen to see Tal.ki? It actually provide the exact forum I need, the only problem is how the Sign In appears (the icons are too small). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAYmcppt9to&feature=youtube_gdata_player Funny that something as old-fashioned as a forum is so difficult to get into an app. Thanks again for your input.

I did take a brief look at tal.ki - didn't see any kind of api or mobile library though.
