Large app icon

When submitting an app for submission to iTunes Connect, does the large app icon have to be exactly 1024 x 1024 pixels? I'm having difficulties finding an image that is acceptable. Same goes for the 4" Retina screenshot. Anyone have any suggestions? Judy

The Icon has to be 1024 x 1024 to be submitted properly. If you have an icon that is to large, scale it down using the preview tool to re-size the image. Same goes for the icon if it is a little too small. I had a very good icon at 900 x 900 but I just scaled it up at little (which meant it was a little blurry), but Apple approved it. When it comes to the screenshot, use the simulator to take a screenshot. You don't need to have an iPhone 5!

@annandale. I hacked a way to make a icon bigger without compromising the image. I just made a rounded corner square in photoshop that was 1024x1024 and made the background the same as the image. I then put my image in the middle. Got through without a problem. If you dont have ps then use something that will be the rounded corner square.

Good workaround, @jvalley! I've tried to get into the habit of creating the larger 1024x1024 icon to start, and then scaling down for all the smaller ones I need. Sometimes I forget, but it's worth trying to remember.

My problem was I had a small image to start from if its a business..so I had to find a way because it looks horrible if you blow up.

There's some online tools that help you resize images and maintain quality. They aren't perfect but they help a lot. Also check out fiverr.com. There's people on there that will turn any graphic into a vector image for $5. And that will solve your problems for sure!

I agree with Mark (GoNorthWest) that vector is the best way to go for design. Another way to increase the size simply is to add a border. More designers are trending away from this but in a pinch it works. Mark

I am just now seeing this- and if you have photoshop there is a plugin that will resize images and boost the quality. It used to be called Genuine Fractals, but has been renamed Perfect Resize. I use it a lot for photos and artwork.
