iOS AND Android?

At the moment I only design Apps for iOS, I have a couple of iPhones and iPads I can get my hands on and obviously an iMac. I was wondering how many people actually design and publish both iOS AND Android Apps. If so what are the sales figures like for a comparison? I.e. is there any strong correlations for iOS selling more units than Android or Visa Versa. I suppose what i really want to know is, is it worth investing my time into making my Apps available for Android?

I'm still new to the game but I try to do both for every app I do.. The results are about 2 to 1 in favor of iOS in my area. I had about 100 iOS downloads and 50 android on the first day and that ratio continues

Thank for the input! Yea I was surprised with my Apps, I havent actually released on for a while now... I'm working on a pretty big project, But I'm still reaping on average about 1,200 downloads a day on one of the Apps. I just worry about making the artwork, there's so many screen sizes.

Truth be told Nick, I have never earned from any of my Android apps, both in sales and revenue. This could be for reason such as no one wants my app and those who have purchased have complained about performance, again Android is for very difficult to develop for. I had a post last week about iOS and Android: http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=4B09AAD2F9D9D216CB5341D&currentPage=10 Worth a read, got some interesting feedback. If there is one thing I have learnt about BT and that is to build the Android separately from iOS and not to use the same project to deliver to both.

Thanks Dragon, by the sounds of it I'm not going to bother with the headache. I spend enough time trying to get iPhone 4 & 5 screens looking perfecto. If I'm now going to have to cater for another couple of thousand handsets I might just end the misery right now.

Every app, 19 total, 16 on the markets, both platforms. Pain in the ass but that's what my customers want. Tim

Hey @Nick Langley, I believe in giving users the choice of both platforms. The ultimate decision is up to you and the type of Apps you develop. LA

Hi Nick, in fact there is about 4:1 up to 5:1 better revenue per app from iOS compared to Android, as the figures say. I am trying to do both, have released 1 iOS and 4 Android apps. Nobody downloaded the paid Android apps (except for my 3 friends, LOL, I asked them). It definitely makes sense to develop for Android from the perspective of keeping low cost of development, adding ads... then you can get a few hundreds or even thousands per year per app. But if you put the same amount of work to iOS, there is more chance you earn real money by that time. There are many reasons, but: Android users usually do not like to pay, they download free or crack an app. Apple user are OK with paying for what they like, especially if it cost a few bucks. Majority of Android growth is in emerging markets... China, India... they use their own stores/repos, they do not download from Google Play. Booming numbers good for Google marketing. Cheers! This is exactly the issue I'm dealing with right now. iPhone app is ready and waiting for review, but knowing I'd have to make so much screen-sizes.. I'm gonna follow this thread. Now I think I'll leave my app iPhone only.. When it's accepted ofcourse ;)

My 'market' is my island. I create for both. Currently I have only one app out and it's free. My next app will most likely also be free, and for both platforms. I hope to sell Advertising banner space to local businesses. Wish me luck, lol! Cheers! -- Smug

Please don't listen to me, my experience with Android sucks but that's just me . Others will have better success than me, it's just I prefer iOS, I really love the end result and as a designer this is naturally what I'm looking for.

I have seen reports from others on this forum that the Ad Networks help them make money on Android. To me, that might mean the Android users don't pay as much for apps as the iOS users. Yet, the Android users seem to click on more ads than the iOS users. Search the forum for "ad network" to see which ones have better engagements and payouts and ease of integration into BuzzTouch projects. Caution: I don't have direct experience in these matters. I've not released any apps onto any store as an individual developer. -- Niraj
