showing through camera an overlay golf hole image (iOS)

I want to have the option on my golf course app for people to look through the iPhone's camera and see an overlay of the hole in front of them - how can I do this? If I need to have QR Codes by the holes, etc I can do this, so people scan the QR code and go to the correct hole.... Could I use a transparent backgrounded PNG overlaid on top of the camera view to show each hole and note any warnings / water /sandtraps etc? How would I do that?

Be careful with Aurasma though. It is designed for images in magazines. I did a trial with my car parked outside and a video of the car commercial came up. It was really finicky and all depended on the weather outside being the same as the weather when I took the original image. The golfers would also need to be standing in a predetermined locating for the angle of the image to be correct, especially with contrasting items like sandtraps and greens/fairways.

Maybe try this: If the course has a drawn replica image of the hole next to the tee box (usually a "top-down" shot with yardage and hole #) the golfer can use Aurasma on that image to see a video of the hole. If it's a nicer course if may have yardage handbooks for members and each page could trigger the video as well. Ryan

The less complicated the image the easier it is for detection. Your best off using a QR Code or something bold and static, RFC is right it would be almost impossible to stand on a gold course, aim your camera down the fairway and get Aurasma to detect where you are.
