Code mods

I've been playing around with code the past few months and have come to the strong realisation that not everything can become a plugin. Have developed a new audio player, what makes this different it stays on type all the the time (it can be hidden for certain screens such as the storeview here, two lines of code, no change in music, keeps track of where it is up to streams from url or locally. It is purely code has it;s own class but is controlled from the app delegate. Another example is the scrolling text no longer do we have to suffer from truncated text in our labels or button. Again this is a different class a subclass of UILabel. Also shows we no longer need to exit the app to advertise and install our apps, they can now be installed from within your own app, ios6 only but fallbacks are in place. Here's a vid to show these in action http://youtu.be/UdYMSE8N-ec

As usual... all solid features. So you won't be submitting these as plugins? Ryan

I think I might have to set up a free lance custom code service, add polish to peopkes apps, the scroll view and sound aren't really suitable for plugins

Hi Kittsy, Yup I have figured this out for a long time now, a lot of good ideas are tied to directly modifying BT code (Like the center tabbed mod). I'm working with a few plugin developers in the BT community to set up a new "market" on buzztouchmods.com that will sell special mods, tweaks and plugins not suitable for the buzztouch.com market. Developers already have the ability to submit, update and edit their plugins and mods, but will soon be able to set up payments and accept credit cards and paypal. Very cool stuff, but will heavily be based on selling big modifications to self hosted servers much like what we have seen with the copy and paste mod. In this case, your code could be classified a tweak, which could either be distributed free or sold in this new market. Just a thought that might be interesting for those who are developing code or mods that can't be turned into plugins but still want it distributed in one way or another. Cheers, David https://buzztouchmods.com

Wow! Sounds like a great idea David! So that means a mod could be made to the core files to integrate Actionbar Sherlock, for example, and released to the public?

@raveyd - let's say you bought one of the 'mods' from buzztouchmods.com. That would give you access to the changes that would need to be made on your end. It sounds like Kittsy is talking more about offering consulting services to make those changes for you (or at least to walk you through it step by step). I think there's room for both models - and perhaps buzztouchmods.com would consider offering consulting services to their offerings.

These care very cool code mods. Can the "Install in App" be made into a plugin? (Like a new Launch a Native App Plugin?). Can it also sell music? Jake

Agreed. Most of the code I've written the last year is not simple drop in screens. Lots of SDK integration and adding this stuff to apps is more than just copying a few files and updating fields on the Control Panel. To look good in an app and fit inside the BT architecture - most of this custom code/controls I see out there I want to use have to be tweeked a bit. I've got that same control working as a plug-in and IIRC it uses a plist to store the playlist. That's not something I've seen people use @ BT much - plists. I'm guessing you had to add that subview to one of the BT views utilities to keep it on top of the screens too. Smooth move. Looks Great! Kittsys' custom iOS chopshop. Great place to get work done. I plan to drag my rides in there when I need some custom help, the couple of times I have I've been more than pleased with the results. BuzztouchMods expanding for more custom development sounds even more awesome :) You want to take a BT app and customize it to the next level, these are the services with support you really need.
