One thing i have seen for last 1 year is that all new services pay you good only till they are new in this business and once they get old the payment rate drops... I would prefer admob over any other ad network for android. Startapp too is good. Besides these both i have used airpush, revmob, chartboost and leadbolt... I would not recommend any one with these ad services... they are not so good... Admob pays less in comparison to other ad networks but you can trust them. Also if your apps get downloaded with huge number, the admob revenue will increase a lot. I earn upto $50-60 per day from admob. You can also consider startapp with admob...
