...and the theory (was) that it exports Android...

http://pencil.evolus.vn/ I have not tried it yet. I did spend about $80 on software that doesn't do quite as much, if the feature list is accurate. If it exports Android Layout files, I'm in. Cheers! -- Smug

@smugwinp : Looks neat and can you detail a bit more the use of it?

It's for diagramming out screens and actions for an app... sort of a 'mock up'. I've always found the documentation of an applications 'desired characteristics' to be one of the most important (and most ignored) aspect of the Software Development Life Cycle. In particular, you draw out screens, screen actions, follow up screens, etcetera. Then you have a written document of what screens you need, where they fit in the scheme of things, how they interact with the rest of the application, and so on... This is something you can take to the client and get signed off on, so later down the road when you provide a deliverable it has already been laid out what they want, what they get, and no surprises for anyone. And again, I haven't tried it yet, but it 'says' it can export to Android Layout. I have a heck of a time with layouts; It just hasn't clicked for me yet. I understand the basics, but anything more complex than a radio group and I'm all thumbs. Cheers! -- Smug

I downloaded it and gave it a quick look. The export to 'layout' function just exports an html file, and in a web browser didn't look like the crude picture I made in the program. It's okay for free - not something I would see myself using too much though.

Well, I'm indeed bummed it doesn't export Android; I probably misread in my desire to see what I wanted to see... Still, as a diagramming tool I think it's pretty nice... the stencil selection is good... I may start using it for certain tasks. And they include a fair amount of the Glyphish icons I paid good money for too, lol! Cheers! -- Smug

Smug - Have you ever checked out DroidDraw? http://www.droiddraw.org/ I really like it, but I generally use the Graphical Layout builder in Eclipse. DD works great when I don't want to run Eclipse and just want to mock up a quick screen or adjust one a little. They just released DD executables a while back to run it off line too. His Widget Guide is really useful too.

Atrain I've tried it, but it just felt kind of funky... I'd rather use the built in Eclipse tools over Droid Draw, but I'm still working on understanding it all. It seems rather straightforward; I mean, it's only XML, but I still have issues from time to time... Cheers! -- Smug
