Advanced Search Plug-in

Good morning, I am trying to find a plug-in that allows me to do an in depth search for product on my app, more like a filter I guess. Can anybody help me with this? I have no idea what I am doing. Thank you in advanced

Don't worry about it; I have no idea what you're doing either ;) I know PSM Danny wrote a search plugin that works on iOS systems. I don't think there is anything available in Android (yet). But if something doesn't pop up soon, I may end up writing one, because I'm going to need it too. Cheers! -- Smug

Thanks for the reply Smug Let me try to clarify, say I have an app for selling cars. I want the user to be able to specify by selecting the options to filter like on auto trader, the type of car, the price range, mileage etc.. not just a broad search like google. To filter out until the user can find exactly what they are looking for, without going through a bunch of unnecessary data. I hope this cleared things up a little atleast.

Well, that would be 'skill dependent'. There currently isn't a plugin (that I'm aware of) with that capability, so you'd probably end up having to create your own. In the immediate sense, that kind of thing could be built with the app as the 'front end' and using a php/mysql setup for the 'backend' to handle searchs, drill downs, requests, etcetera. The caveat with that is they would need to have a network connection for this to work. But it's the quickest/easiest way. Cheers! -- Smug

If you don't leave the page after posting, and refresh, it seems to have a nasty habit of doubling the post. You're not the first :) Cheers! -- Smug

Hello, Caleb & Smug. I'm looking to have a similar search function in an app and just came across this thread. I was wondering if either of you had gotten any further with it?

Not really. At least, not I. I'm still working on the way data is being handled to and from the app. I'm leaning towards a predominantly 'offline' app and am still working with that section. There seems to be an update coming up soon for the Search Plugin Danny created, but it hasn't finished the approval process yet. Look for it soon, but I'm not sure if soon is tomorrow or next week. Cheers! -- Smug
