ANDROID facts 2012

Gang, I found great infographics: http://www.startapp.com/infographics/2012-the-year-of-Android-infographic/index.html This comes from an Israeli based company that claims great ways to monetize our apps. Cheers! Frogman

grrrrr... They're the ones with the plankton virus in their sdk. SuVinay and I did some digging around a while ago. Not doubting their infographic, just their business model.

Interesting (both the infographic and the SDK info). I read something today where for each iOS user that defects to something else, there are like three Android users that defect. No doubting the overall proliferation of Android platforms, but I'm not sure that means they have better quality.

1.2 cents app revenue per download? Does that seem to be the standard? I know another service CHARGES the advertiser 50 cents a download. Can we developers band together to create a premium for our inventory? Ryan

Hi, I saw this infographic also some days ago, bookmarked the site, continued my journey... I guess its too early for me to understand those companies... But I just would like to continue Frogman´s post with a video that I just saw, found it in a website that I think, from first sight, really really rocks: marakana.com Watching the video it suddenly hit me. The strength of Android is the same strength that makes BuzzTouch so special. It´s an open source project. It gathers around so much good energy, enthousiasm, imagination, possibilities... Dont think only mobile. In a few years the new "Gold Rush" may be in Google Glass, or something different related to Android. Open, Modifiable, Engaging. That will make the difference for the long run. http://youtu.be/JpK0QqUojPs Enjoy the video, this man is so sweet... :D Have a Buzzy day! Salamandra (Sent from my iPhone) (No, just kidding...)

> They're the ones with the plankton virus in their sdk. Can you please explain this a bit further. I have just started using StartApp and AVG, my antivirus software, complains about something, something about dex or similar. If you can shed any light on this, I would be grateful.

I searched for it and one reasonable, but outdated link is this: https://blog.lookout.com/blog/2012/01/27/lookout%E2%80%99s-take-on-the-%E2%80%98apperhand%E2%80%99-sdk-aka-android-counterclank/ StartApp also say they comply with Google directive from July 2012. But I'd be the first to say that it is a thin line between aggressive advertising and malware.

Hi, I do not intend to promote the company, therefore I did not even mention their name. The infographics is nice and full of useful info. The plankton kind of ads and attitude do harm this business, rendering good thing to dust just because someone was very hungry. Cheers! Frogman

@Dusko, my AVG was more specific, rightly or wrongly classing it a Trojan. I dumped it quickly to be on the safe side. Personally, I think it goes over the line as there's little control for the developer. Airpush is similar and in the wrong hands can be very aggressive, but at least devs have the option to throttle it. Trouble is, it can still give innocent devs a bad name. @Frogman, yeah, it's a useful infographic, sorry, I didn't mean to turn people away from the subject of the post.
