Splash Screen Question

First I would like to say that I am super excited because I just got my first app working on my iphone and even though I haven't posted on the forum, I have read a lot and would not be where I am without all your help. My question is about the splash screen. I want to delay the loading of some of the screens to give the user the feeling of a lot of calculating/computing going on even thought it happens instantaneously. I'm thinking of the way the Splash Screen works except it says the splash screen works only when the app first loads. I want to do it on screens that are loaded later. Anyone know how I can make this work?

So, I don't know how to do this, but I'm going to argue the other side and say you shouldn't do it. Users, I think, have come to expect almost instantaneous feedback on their mobile devices/smartphones/tablets. If you make it look like the app is sluggish or straining to get things done, people might not wait for the data to load. As sad as it is to say, if people have to wait more than a millisecond for a response, they get bored. Such is the state of the human being these days! Indeed...users (and reviewers like Apple) might be even more impressed if you display some serious results faster than they would expect them to appear! Don't take this as me saying you shouldn't do it...just a different view to consider. Mark

It does seem a little silly when you put it that way doesn't it ? I was reading older threads wi th the splash screen subject since I posted this question & read where David had a very similar response as yours. I should probably be trying to figure out how to embrace the technology instead of defeat it. Thanks

I have to agree wholeheartedly with Mark. Never delay on purpose. That said, In my list of 'to build' plugin creations, I am throwing together "Smug's InterScreen", which for lack of a better description is a 'splash screen between pages'. The theory is you would link the interscreen as an 'in between' page. The interscreen has both an imageview and a text view. Designers can use the space for advertisements, or explanations on what to do on the next screen. Or perhaps both. On a button tap or predefined time, it fades out and moves on to your next screen. And I'm going to use a xib file for easy designer modification. Cheers! -- Smug
