Certificates

Well I'm there.. Trying to beat the apple process to get my app on the store.. I am now confused.. I have my distribution certificate and I can't get it in Xcode .. I go to the program to upload . Well it sees my certificates but in one section it asks for a ID .. I have know idea what this means.. Also I try to upload and it asks for a password.. I never set one? Just stuck try to get my certificates loaded or recognized.. I was able to select on the code signing the certificates that showed up but it wouldn't let's build then.. Two hours and I gave up for the night .. I did follow the PDF on this site but it doesn't help my import the certs.. Thanks

Certs can be a pain, always think I have them nailed then...... Many folk delete/revoke and start again. Sometimes helps to read a different 'how-to'. Try this one: http://support.brightcove.com/en/app-cloud/docs/step-step-guide-publishing-apple-app-store-using-mac or this one: http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#documentation/ToolsLanguages/Conceptual/DevPortalGuide/ManaginganiOSDistributionCertificate/ManaginganiOSDistributionCertificate.html If it lets you select the cert for code signing are you building for archiving with iOS device selected?

Hey, everybody who did it for the first time probably thought about taking a big hammer... You must set up a certificate for every single app, not only for you as a developer. I went through the process about 3 weeks ago, and unfortunately I cannot remember the steps by heart. Yesterday I tripped over a good tutorial, but it is in Slovak so this would not be very helpful. What helped was to dig into Apple documentation. MacApple already posted the resource to you, have a sleep, do your shift and you will get it done tonight. Reading Apple docs will slow you down, but finally you will get where you need to. HOLD ON! Frogman

@ MacApple: beautiful, this is something that need to be addressed better, thank you for sharing that video. Maybe we should initiate adding a library of such good links into the Member cabinet. That could streamline a lot of answers for the beginners like me. All the best! McFrogman

If build for archive is greyed out, it could be your phone is still connected to your mac, unplug and make sure instead of XCode saying [YourPhone} it says iOS Device as the target. We have all been there :)

Hey Sheriff, that is exactly how I did my first app in iOS. I cannot repeat how I did it, it cost me a day, I thought that my head will blow out and in the end I got it done but I cannot repeat the steps... Do not worry, I would think that this scenario is valid for 90% of the greenhorn developers like me. The remaining 10% already committed suicide. God bless you, congratulation! Rudi the Frogman
