Self Hosted: 2 Apps, Same Name

Hi All, With a Self Hosted Control Panel, can I have 2 apps with the same name? Jake

I use two app names, one called, say App1Android and the other is App1Apple. The CP name doesn't really matter too much, you configure the app name in Eclipse and Android. But, now, you cannot have two names the same as they are writing to a DB. Have to be different.

But, how do I make the bundle identifier the same? (Does the bundle identifier come from the app name or the project name in the control panel)? Jake

Within Xcode. Are you updating an old app with a new app and want it to match? Apple just wants the version to change and bundle identifier to match if I follow you correctly.

Interesting. Do you think there will be an option within the control panel to change the bundle identifier? Jake

There isn't an option. They are not linked like that as such. If you hit targets, summary you can change the identifier to match the app you plan on updating, that is to say if you are downloading a new / different project from BT.

These are different items... In your BT control panel, you can have all apps the same name if you want. However, like McApple, I would counsel naming them differently, if only for human reasons. The 'difference' is in the identifier that specifies (within the BT app app builders and stuff) which app is which; the (autogenerated) "GUID" is unique for each app and cannot be duplicated (without causing problems). This is all handled within the BT Server and users don't have access to this (unless they go mess with the database). With respect to your bundle identifier, that's between you and your code. You'll set that in Xcode. By default buzztouch usually gives it the app name, but that is a 'suggestion' more than a rule. I always have to edit it in my app development workflow, because my 'working title' is almost never what I end up naming it. The way I do it is, I use my 'wildcard' cert while developing, and when I'm close to finishing, or if I just come up with a name I like, I go to the Apple Developer site and create a new provisioning certificate with the bundleID I want, then I change my app accordingly. But, how do I change the name that appears under the icon on the device, but not the name in the control panel? (Android) Jake

In Android you would alter your AndroidManifest.xml file, after a few lines of device features, it starts to outline the app parameters... The one you're looking for is "android:label=@string/appname" At the top of the file is the default bundleID as well. Cheers! -- Smug
