Trouble starting up with x10Hosting

Hi guys, I have recently been wondering about self-hosted, and I spoke to David from Buzztouch-mods to find out a little more. I am probably going to buy a package from MrDavid when I have a clients who would like to have the service. However, for now, I just want a taster of what it is like, so I have set up a free account at x10Hosting to get a feel for what it is like. Although I am an active member of Buzztouch, I have never set up any Self-Hosting account, so a little help to get it uploaded would be grand!

Hi. Its super simple. Just donwload the package from BT website, upload it via ftp to you domain. And follow some few simple steps. The package you download come with a pdf the gives you a step by step. Let me know if you need help. Miguel

I just did this earlier today -only took about 20 minutes! The trickiest part is probably creating the mySQL database. In the x10 cPanel, there is phpMyAdmin, and that is where you create the database users and the database itself. I used defaults for most settings and just made sure I noted the exact names of the items I created to add during the BT Server install process. If you've created mySQL databases with phpMyAdmin before, it will be a breeze. Good luck! -William

Under the How To's Menu -- Heading: Self Hosting buzztouch Link: Step-by-Step Tutorial: Instalilng the buzztouch Self Hosted Package Points to document: Buzztouch Server Tutorial.pdf This shows how to install self-hosted BT-server using your hosting account's cPanel. I think this is the easiest way to do it. Also, I did not edit my config.php file on my local machine. I did the editing in cPanel's File Manager. I figured that if I messed up, I could always re-upload the original from my local machine. Also, once you log in to your self-hosted BT-server, under Admin > Server Settings, note the warning: "Settings are Read Only on this screen." You can't change the settings here, as you might expect. Rather, you have to edit these settings in the config.php file. You also have to include your buzztouch.com username and password in the config.php so your self-hosted BT-server can log in to your buzztouch account and update your plug-ins. Of course before you can do the above, there is additional housekeeping: You need to register a domain name, get a hosting account, set up you DNS nameservers, etc. That's all I could think of, at the moment. Good luck!
