New Google API for upgrade

In anticipation of the new upgrades to BT, I read that Google API 3, level 11 was to be used in the future. But when I go to Eclipse and look a the choices for project builds I see only Google API 2.2 (level 8), 4.12 (level 16) and API 42. (level 17). Which should I choose for the new implementation of BT? Thanks. Steve

It's a good practice to go into your SDK manager every once in a while, to see if there is anything to update as well... Cheers! -- Smug

Hi guys. After I downloaded the new API's, I closed all and reopened and now I get an error message to start that This Android SDK required Android Developer Tookit 21.1.0 o r higher and the current version is 21.0.1.2012-12-6-2-58. It tells me to check for upgrades and when I do it say there aren't any. I go to SDK Manager and it says right there I have 21.1 What gives? Also if I go to properties for an app and go under Android there are no build targets listed anymore, even the old ones. What gives? Steve

Make sure you have eclipse up to date also and restart.

None of that worked so I went to Time Machine and got a slightly old version of my SDK Tools folder, copied that back in, started eclipse and it then said there was an upgrade for the toolkit, I let it do its thing and all is well. Who knows what went wrong but all is well so I won't complain. Steve

Hi Steve, I actually hit that same error message today, and it bugged me for quite a bit, because it appeared that I had everything updated. But then I headed over to the Android SDK Tools page, and followed their instructions to install via the zip file, and now everything is good! Here's the link: http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing/installing-adt.html Follow the numbered instructions in the "Troubleshooting Installation" section, and you should be good to go. Mark

Mark, I'll remember that link but as I mentioned, all is working now that I did a Time Machine restore so I'm going to leave well enough alone for now. Steve

OK, cool. When you hit the problem again (and you probably will!), at least you have an option now.

I cannot seem to run any devices within Eclipse. I configured tools for Android in the SDK file and after telling Eclipse about Android, I right clicked from the project window and the lowest API for Google was 4.2.2 11. ( My app has map plug in) So, I build target for those parameters for a similar device and nothing. I swapped devices and targets to match them and nothing but a Galaxy device screen with a lock icon that I cannot get past. What do I need to do? This is the first time I have utilized Eclipse for configuring an Android package build in the App builder. I'm in the testing phase and cannot get anything to run in Eclipse at the moment. I'm operating a Mac Pro with the latest operating system. (I do not like to run java script on this machine) Anyway, help?

Hi Rogue, Give this video a view. It's a tutorial that shows you how to get from the BT control panel into the Android Emulator: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NV3Ofi2602I * To get past the lock icon, just grab it with your mouse and slide it to the right (like you would a real device) * You'll need to use your SDK Manager to download the Google API 8 (now 11, with the new updates) * If you meant Java instead of Javascript in your last statement, you'll have to have Java running in order to do anything. Android is all Java code Hope this helps a bit! Mark

I wonder if I should just start the whole process over again?

Nope, I just don't think you've completed the initial process. What you're describing is the default state of the Eclipse ADT bundle. Either way, you still need to download the correct Google API. Google gives you the latest and greatest version, but doesn't automatically include the older ones.

Okay, got it to run. App has many problems on the screen. Should I do a "clean" or.......? The images for my buttons are missing. Thank you so much Mark. What a blast learning this stuff.

Sweet! You're well on your way! Any images like buttons and icons need to go into the res > drawable folder in your project. If you have any HTML docs with images, they both go into assets > BT_Docs. Check out this start-to-finish, illustrated guide for Android that I whipped up: http://www.buzztouch.com/files/howtos/buzztouch_For_Android-A_Users_Guide.pdf Hope this helps! Mark
