spash screen

I am still having issues with my splash screen not showing up.. It worked for a while and now it doesnt work. In eclipse the log even shows its suppose to be working. However I am not seeing it. I have it set to a url which does work.. I did notice that when i go to my theme and set the splash screen name i have to manually enter. the control panel doesnt detect a splash screen even though one is created. I manually enter the screen name exact. Any thought?

Well, typically you can do a 'local' image file, which is going to be located in your BT_Docs directory, or you'll call it from a dataURL entry. You shouldn't have both fields filled; something might get confused. Otherwise, it 'should' work. That the image doesn't load when the splash screen comes up is a bit odd... I'd say start from scratch. Go into your 'theme' and remove whatever entry you have for a splash screen. then go to that splash screen and remove both local and remote file entries, where applicable. Check your json in the control panel; ensure those entries have been removed and there is no 'residual' information remaining... Then start over again; go to theme, 'select' a splash screen; don't manually enter any names. Then go to that screen's control panel. in a separate browser window, bring up the URL for your 'remote' splash screen image file. ensure it works. Copy/Paste that url from your browser into your dataURL field. For the time being, use the same working URL for both large and small data entries... For the moment, select '1 second' for both timing intervals. Save it. Ensure the Json is correct, and try it again. You shouldn't have to re-download any code for this. But if you use a local file, make sure it is 'added' to the project, and not just 'copied' to the project, and also uploaded/selected in the control panel. If you use a local data file, make sure the json entry says "backgroundImageNameSmallDevice":"something.png" for a local file, or "backgroundImageURLSmallDevice":"http://www.myserver.com/something.png" for a dataURL entry. Cheers! -- Smug

I think its a bug, as I had the same issue. Because I have both BT and Self Hosting Control panels, I ended up having to rebuild an old app again in my Self Hosting and the splash worked fine and I was able to select my splash screens I create. Question: which splash screen are you using? Is it the BT version, Animated version or the Random splash version?

It's random Smug I have deleted and started over for the screens.. Only one is entered .. When run through the emulator the bottom says 1 entry on the splash screen ... I added a second image URL to see it one wasn't working .. Trying to test everything and have no luck .. I do get the background screen I chose but the graphic doesn't show .. I know the splash is working just not the graphic .. Again a local file or a URL have both been tested

OK, I had the same issue on the BT control panel with the Random and Animated splash screens. I tried resolving with Chris1 who made the plugin. Not sure what options you have as I think you may have a hard time to get it working on the BT control panel. These plugins work great on Self Hosting. Sorry I cannot be of any further assistance. If you have the facilities to go Self Hosting I would recommend it.

Well, there are those who use the background graphic 'as' their splash screen... But I'm a little curious... It's been a while since I've used the BT control panel, I've been on self hosted for the last couple of months and I guess I just have memory loss; I don't recall having issues... I'm not sure what major differences there are between Self Hosted and BT Hosted, with respect to code differences; I would expect the same behavior from both... But who knows... So... is the Image a PNG or a JPG? Can you try with one of those if not? Does the same image (either local or remote) work out as a background image? I'm just throwing darts; I'm close to running on empty here ;) Cheers! -- Smug

Hi Smug I spent two days trying to resolve this issue as I didn't to rebuild an old app, but I ended up having too. Chris1 tried to help me but we just couldn't work out why his new plugins wouldn't show up in the screens list in the core settings once created. If you are able to work this out, please let me know as I have a few apps on the BT server and I really do not want to rebuild so I can use the new splash plugins.

Smug,, I have used both png and jpg.. i have also used the tired the same image as the background. Like I stated i really believe that the splash screen is working and in the log it states it is and pulling from where ever i want it to pull from. Its just not showing up.. i have went through all the trouble shooting with the emulator in clear the cache , unstalling the app. copying and pasting the config file... I also deleted the splash plugin and reinstalled.. Its not a deal breaker but it would be nice to have. The app is completed and its my first.. I am proud i figured out my release key and debug keys last night.. Dragon- I would love to go self hosted but i am learning the app building which is all i can struggle with now.. I do have hosting space but setting it up might be over my head right now. Jim

I would love to help you install, but I had someone install my Self Hosting for me as this isn't my strong point.

What does your debug show? Can you paste it into a text file and dropbox it? I let David know about the issue with selecting splash screens using the Random Splash and Animated Splash via Buzztouch.com, so he's aware and should be working on it.

Hi @jvalley, First thing that pops out at me is your "pig.jpg" it should be "pig.png". Although jpg will work with Android/Eclipse it's very unstable, so the best format would be use the png format for all pics/images. If your using an Animated splash, how are you animating it with Android? LA
