Question About Push Notification Self Hosting

Hi right, push notification has been like a bad nightmare for me for the past 6 months, never been able to get it going, then comes a long the BT solution, Great! this means my nightmare is over, WRONG! Why won't this work for me. Now, I'm wondering how would I know that I have set up push correctly? I have been following the guide that was recently posted that provides a step by step guide, but what are the signs for me to look for if I have successfully implemented in BT. I have 3 registered devices that show in my CP, I have the green light for my Dev Cert, but when I send the push I get nothing. I have checked to see if push has been allowed on my device, YES it has, so what am I doing wrong? Is it that Apple just doesn't like me? lol! I want to put my foot through my monitor, but if I do that I'll have no monitor. Do I need to download the source code again, now that I have added my certificates to my CP? I'm just lost. HELP!

Question: what 'Send to Device' options should I have, currently I have 'Android Devices', 'iOS Devices' and a drop down menu to select 'Send to devices in Design Mode' & ;Send to devices in Live Mode'. Is this correct as the guide I have been looking has different options.

Did you check to see if the correct ports are open? 1. TCP port 5223 (used by devices to communicate to the APNs servers) 2. TCP port 2195 (used to send notifications to the APNs) 3. TCP port 2196 (used by the APNs feedback service) 4. TCP Port 443 (used for ssl I think) Jake

I've been told they are open by my tech guy, may be I should speak with the host company to make sure.

It may be a good idea to call them. Jake

Another question: when creating my certificate should be for development or distribution? BTW my ports were closed on the phone to my host and they have just unblocked for me. Can't believe my colleague said he checked, he clearly did not. Now for the big test!

You should test in development, but use distribution once it is live in the app store. Edit: A re-downloading of source code will not be required. Jake

Don't need to re-download the source code. Instead, just update the BT_config.txt file by doing a direct change into the Live mode or by copy-pasting the entire contents from the Control Panel into your file. Then re-compile. Your certificate should be for Distribution. -- Niraj

Thanks guys, will do just that. Don't really want to download the source code again, but thanks for your help Jake, I needed some support last night and you offered. Niraj, I will update the config file. Can I just copy the whole config data in the control panel and past into config file in Xcode?

Yes, do that: .. "copy the whole config data in the control panel and past into config file in Xcode"

Does anyone know, when requesting to have the specified ports open/unblocked, whether it should be setup for incoming or outgoing or both. We manage our own server and we have never had to unblock any ports, can anyone offer any advice.

To check if anything is procedurally amiss, try using BuzzTouch.com instead of your own Server. -- Niraj
