How do i use my IOS device instead of a simulator

The simulator is annoying and i would rather use my iphone but an error message comes up when i try to. Can someone please run me through step-by-step in doing it?

You need to register your device in the apple provisioning tool. (I assume you have an apple developer account?)

Yep. Like Bonzo said, you have to have an Apple Developer Account first. Once you do, then you can register your device (up to 100 devices per year) to test with. Fortunately, the Apple Simulator is pretty darn good, compared to it's Android brethren. However I agree with you; no simulator beats a real device. but it is what it is; $99 bucks to Apple first. Cheers! -- Smug As a by the way, when you DO become an Apple Developer, then you have to wade through the whole certificate debacle. Do yourself a favor and read up on GoNorthWest's tutorials on that before/when you join, so you'll have half an idea of what they're talking about. Apple doesn't seem to want to make it easy for you, and prefers that you read tons of superfluous documentation first.

You have to plug in your device into the computer through the USB cable. Minimize all the iTunes and iPhoto etc. Then you log in to the Provisioning Portal. It will offer you to register the device that is plug into the computer. If not, just find where and register it for development. It's quite intuitive, and can be done in a few minutes. The opposite is the code signing process for building a real app and uploading, but leave that for the future when you accomplish this. I also suggest to read the manual, THIS WAY THANK YOU GONORTHWEST:!) you are a good man to have produced that SOP! When you have it registered, just choose your device in the choices in Xcode instead of the simulator. Before you run it in the device, do not forget to code sign your app. You do it in the Build Settings, set the credentials to iPhone Developer, otherwise you get a red error when building. Your Xcode may require a restart though, if you could not find the right option in place. Then just hit the play symbol and wait for about 30s, your device will first look like doing nothing, but you see the lines changing in the console. After a little time your app will start on your device! You deserved a Champagne! Cheers! Frogman

BTW, I absolutely agree with the statement that it is much easier to work with Xcode and develop on the iPhone, rather than Android. Although I like Android, it takes about 3 times more time to achieve half of the result, which does not even half so polished like on iPhone. Most of your precious time and energy is simply wasted for fighting with idiotic bugs of the development tools. You need to re-download the code every single time, if you want to see changes and make sure it does run, you have to manually delete the AVDs, etc., and finally, your app may work well on HTC phone, stable and nice, and crash on Samsungs... Cheers! Frogman

They just ask for your postal address because you buy it through the same Apple store that everything else (computers, iPods, etc.) is bought in. What happens is that they will email you an activation code within a day of you purchasing the developer membership.

Go to Control panel of your app> core properties >allow rotation. Default is allow for large devices. Set it to allow all.
