Eclipse errors Cannot Compile NEW app (can compile OLD apps)

Trying to get my Android app going. Cannot get past errors with the download (Self-Hosted, 2.0). However, I can compile and run an old BT1.5 with no problems. I think that means Eclipse is setup correctly, right? The errors I'm seeing (2) are below: 1) The project was not built since its build path is incomplete. Cannot find the class file for java.lang.Object. Fix the build path then try building this project BT_activity_root Unknown Java Problem 2) The type java.lang.Object cannot be resolved. It is indirectly referenced from required .class files urbanaandroid_appDelegate.java /BT_activity_root/src/com/urbanaandroid line 1 Java Problem I hate Eclipse almost as much as Xcode Code Signing! Any help will be appreciated!

Hey buddy. What did you try to fix? 1. Right Click on the project --> Build Path --> Configure Build Path... 2. In the 'Source' tab, Select the project eg. 'myProject/src' --> Click OK. 3. Right Click on the project --> Android Tools --> Fix Project Properties Few other solutions here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7461977/error-when-importing-android-projects-into-eclipse

Hey Andy, Not sure if you've seen this video or not. Walks you through the process from control panel to emulator. Might help somehow along the way! <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NV3Ofi2602I" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NV3Ofi2602I</a> Mark [Edit - Just noticed you're talking about new apps, which implies you already know what you're doing! Ignore me and stick with @MacApple.]

Thanks for your help guys! I was hoping to see your names as responses. However, nothing is working. IF you have some time, could you look at these screenshots? Things seems really wonky with this package. It's 2.1.8 self-hosted and there are hundreds of errors, most having to do with "R cannot be resolved to a variable". But, I can build and run prior Android projects. https://www.dropbox.com/s/adfal2djcknrymd/Eclipse.png https://www.dropbox.com/s/bcy8ujlt061g7ae/Eclipse2.png Also, if anyone would be willing to help via Teamviewer (or whatever), I'd be willing to pay you for your time. Thanks, Andy

Boy..... 7:40 only half a coffee so far. Something to do with your package name, did you rename it? Normal enough to be able to build old projects. Does the package name declaration in your AndroidManifest.xml file match the package name in your projects src folder?

Eclipse can do funny things, has something like this recently as I had changed the name of the appin my BT control panel prior to downloading the package.

On a whim, I tried the source from Buzztouch.com, instead of my self-hosted version. It seems to work. I don't know if it's a problem with the Self-Hosted 2.1.8 source code, my installation, or my eclipse installation, but it doesn't work. However, source from the BT.com does work. Thanks for your help. I'll dig into this tonight. Andy

I just tested this on a brand new 2.1.8 SH server. Brand new Android app. I think this is just eclipse being wonky- I had 100 errors as well. On this screen shot- https://www.dropbox.com/s/adfal2djcknrymd/Eclipse.png go back to this step and select Google 2.2 now hit the APPLY button and then the OK button That forces eclipse to actually rebuild your workspace. they apply button is KEY. that cleared all my errors up...

Let me send you some source code from a fresh 2.1.8 so you can at least test it against your enviro. This will prove it's packaging. I think it's some new file path stuff. I'm running that 2.1.8 box with my 2.1.6 frankensteined config.php file. I posted about it. This fixed all my issues, except that warning thing, but that is a regular occurance with Eclipse. I do that to every project for good measure, sometimes after I add new files. She is a fickle beast. send me a pm

Thanks again for all your help. I've reinstalled Eclipse and all the packages. Still having issues with 2.1.8 (I'll pm you Atrain, thanks!), but have managed to get a buzztouch.com 2.0 package running on my device. Can't seem to make a simulator though; my only choice is for Google API 4.2. I will continue with this and see how far I can get. Thanks again to everyone for your support. Just knowing I'm not ALONE helps immensely! Andy

Gents - I officially hate Eclipse with a passion. Have been knee deep in for last 2 days, fixed a lot of silly issues. Tried to implement some cool SDK stuff, not half as easy as xCode, maybe I just need more practice. A bad workman always blames his tools and all that jazz, that's me right now. Will say though that the only time the fan has kicked in on my new shiny Macbook is when I have a bleedin' Android phone plugged in and and AVD running. Sounds like take off time. Nearly done with first proper Android app thingy-me-bob. Seeing David this weekend so hopefully make some progress. Just going to IV some coffee. Missed your frankensteiny post @ATRAIN53 - Have not upgraded until I finish this app, will check it out then. Good man.

Hey Andy, If you can only create a simulator for Google API 4.2, that sounds like maybe you only have that API installed? Did you download the Android and Google APIs for the other levels you're interested in, via the Android SDK Manager? Mark

Mark, That had crossed my mind, but it shows no errors in Eclipse. Screenshot: https://www.dropbox.com/s/t4hvx41wsmv6v1k/Properties%20for%20BT_activity_root.png I'm running it on my device right now. Not as convenient, but I really need to get this one done and submitted. Thanks again for your offers and all your help in the past! Andy

Weird! You know you can connect your device to your computer and install the app via Eclipse, right? Many people end up sending themselves apk's and installing that way, but you can do it via a USB cable as well. Mark

That's exactly what I'm doing! At least that works... for now. I don't know what's worse: Compiling in Eclipse or Code Signing in Xcode! Andy

Yip, plug it in, allow use for development (under settings, sometimes applications) and you are good to go.

Code signing in Xcode is way, way, way more difficult than anything in Eclipse! At least in my opinion!
