iOS Learning Path

I'm halfway through the iOS Learning Path videos and wow! My head is spinning! I'm brand new to learning all this so am just hoping someone will tell me that it will all start to make sense sooner or later... :) P.S. is it cool to use smiley faces in the world of programmers? I hesitated before using it so am just curious.

It's not essential to watch all of them. It's basic knowledge about coding and what you really get out of Buzztouch. I made two apps before watching any of the videos. Don't worry, you really don't need to watch them if you think it's too much. The Buzztouch ones are the ones to concentrate on though. PS. We also use LOL, so smiley faces are just as acceptable!

It depends... If I'm programming on Android :) If I'm programming in Xcode :( Cheers! -- Smug (Believe it or not, it actually DOES start making sense after a bit...)

Hi KristinT, It's awesome you are taking the initiative to spend some time with the BTU lessons Have you started making an actual app yet? It might also help to watch the videos and jump right into app creation so you see first hand how easy it all can be. Sometimes the technical jargon can get a little confusing but once you start building your apps it becomes super clear :) ian

Thank you Ian. No I haven't started creating an app yet. I have several in mind but thought I would do the lessons first. I'm also waiting for my new Mac to arrive early next week because I do not currently own a Mac. I can't wait to jump into creation mode though!

Keep in mind, though, that a lot of the stuff you see in the BTU videos...the crazy coding that David does...has already been done for you in the form of plugins! So, you don't need to know near as much as what you find in those videos, though I find them super fascinating and chock full of amazing information. Don't hesitate to dive in and start creating an app. Go to your control panel and start the process of putting together the app you want. Since you're waiting for your Mac, and you'll probably want to create Android apps as well, you could get that set up on your current computer. Here's a doc that tells you what you need to get started: https://www.buzztouch.com/files/howtos/Things_You_Need_Before_You_Start_Developing_Apps_v1.1.pdf You'll be amazed how much easier this all is than you think! And don't hesitate to shout out if you run into any problems. Mark :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but I keep trying to download Eclipse but it's just folders after it downloads and doesn't open like a normal download would. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I would recommend watching them now, working on some apps for a few months, then come back and watch them again. When you watch the second time, you will understand it on a much deeper level.

Trial and error works great too. When you get stuck, come to the forum. Good luck. :)

Hi Kristin, do not worry, when you watch it all you will think that it is impossible to understand. Second time it makes a little more sense. I watched some of the videos 6 times until I understood the sense of it, and it does not mean that I can repeat it. It just needs stamina and the more you try, the better you get. You may experience a lot of problems with Eclipse, I also did. I took quite some time until I found out how to add the SDK, how to open a project, how to start and AVD, how to delete an AVD, it is always a good idea to develop separately for android and for iOS, otherwise you will be wondering why it works here and does not work there... There is a lot of knowledge in the forum and you can always describe the problem, there are many people out there who will help. Cheers! Frogman
