Regarding Hosting Videos Online

My apps are mostly video training series. Can anyone tell me which is the best source to host vidoes so that i can include their links in ATS video player and they can be streamed in apps thanks

The best 'source'...? I'm not sure if I understand the question... If you're planning on serving it from the internet, you would store them on your hosted site if you have one, but you could also use Dropbox, or other online storage service. My personal preference is my own site. Hoping that's what you're asking... Cheers! -- Smug

Sorry if there is some confusion in the question. So here is the explanation I am using ATS video player plugin of buzz touch and using self hosted version. I am creating apps which will be training video apps. So i will link video url in ATS video player screen. The hostings mostly do not allow to store so many videos. So where i should store those? Can i link video from dropbox in ATS video player screen? Youtube shows adds on video which is not good so i do not prefer to use youtube. thanks

Thanks for using the plug-in! Indeed, hopefully that NEW plug-in will make streaming and using Youtube vids in ANDROID apps much easier :) Streaming from Dropbox is not really recomended. It will work but the performance will not be great, Dropbox serves up a lot of files to lots of customers - but think of how often it flakes out just trying to download a small zip. Now Imagine them serving videos... If you have a Self Hosted set-up, why not just stream from your own site? Make sure your hosting plan has unlimited FILE TRANSFER and store them on your own site and stream them from there. Most hosting plans give you a few gig.....

I used YouTube in one of my apps to view a video. I just used a HTML page and got an embed code off YouTube. I put the code into my HTML page and bingo, it worked out nicely. If download size isn't an issue for you, you can have the video file in the app, but this will take up a lot of space on the user's device. If possible, try and keep the app under 50 Mb. The reason I say this is because iOS puts a limit on downloading an app using cellular data. If the app is under the limit (50Mb) then the user can download it off the cellular, but if over the limit then they will have to be in a WiFi zone.

And remember that youtube, bitsontherun, and others have several versions of your video. They poll the devices to check bandwidth and such, then serve up the video that will play the best on your device at that time. In other words they offer a multi bit rate solution. Which is great but there's always a price for that. I've been experimenting with videos on my own server but I encode them at the lowest possible bit rate only. Usually around 1 Mbps. Otherwise you will have to set up your own multi bit rate server. By keeping the file size down, that will go a long way toward keeping bandwidth usage down as well. b
