Some Push Notification questions

We need a push notifications forum added lol! A question: I got my push notifications working by sending a push for design mode to my design enabled app using code signing developer certificates. Now I'm ready for the real thing. I changed my app to "live" in the config data, and changed my code signing certificates to distribution (which is linked to live mode apps right?) then I need to send a live mode push. How the heck can I test that production sent push's work if I can't install the app on my phone while I'm code signing with distribution? Thanks all, Cheers, David https://buzztouchmods.com p.s. I fixed my push notifications with this method: http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?fid=50B2476FEC55554A013674D

Can't. Thats the rub with ios you hope that since it works with development cert once you put in distribution cert you really don't know if there is a problem till its been published, thats why testing is so important.

Wouldn't distribution through an Ad Hoc install require a Production certificate and "Live" settings? I haven't tried this, but isn't that how Ad Hoc works? -William

I find testing using an ad-hoc distribution profile is the closest you can get and definately worthwhile if testing push notifications.

Hmm another question, when launching the app for the first time, in design mode, with promptforpush set to 1, it's not asking me to allow notifications when launching app. Any idea why? David https://buzztouchmods.com

If I send out a push it works, but it shouldn't send out a push, I was never given the option to allow or disallow! David https://buzztouchmods.com

Hi David, I've noticed that if I've allowed push for the app once, subsequent installs don't pop the message again. Even if Ive deleted it and rebooted my device. I don't know if this is related to bundle name, cert, or version number (or some combination of those and more) but I'm guessing that is part of it. -William

Once you've allowed an App to receive Push Notifications on iOS, that setting will always be remembered for that Device. Even if you delete and re-install that App. David Book said that on a forum post somewhere in these-here-lands. :-) -- Niraj

Has anyone been able to test push notifications with adhoc on other devices? I've got push working fine with one device using developer cert but have not been able to send to devices with the app installed with adhoc distribution. The device registers ok under the buzztouch control panel but no message is received. Do you have to add a prod cert and send in live mode to test Adhoc installs? Chris

Ignore me, sussed it after posting that and wasting 3hrs trying to get it to work last night! So solution was to create a live cert add it to buzztouch, create a build with currentMode set to live and build with my new ad hoc distribution profile and then send messages from buzztouch using live mode! And relax.... :-)
