This plugin package is invalid... readme.txt file required (despite it's presence)

Interesting issue here... I uploaded a newer version of my plugin to my server, and refreshed my control panel. Now, I am getting an error stating that my plugin is invalid, due to a missing 'readme.txt' file, which of course is NOT missing. I've tried changing permissions, re-uploading, zipping and uploading, and pretty much every method I can think of. Any suggestions? Any similar issues? Cheers! -- Smug

Hey @Smug, I had the same problem! Did you change any text in the readme file? LA

Well, yes... Along with a lot of other files in the plugin, which is why I wanted to upload a new version... lots of naming changes and things that won't jive with the old plugin config... hmm.... Cheers! -- Smug

Try uploading it the new way first. Then if that don't work then upload a readme file without any changes then make changes afterwards. LA

I got it; I have an old, very fresh version of the plugin in my BT control panel. Using the new 'add from BT CP' feature, I added the 'fresh' plugin to my self hosted control panel. BEFORE refreshing, I went in via FTP and copied all my new files EXCEPT the readme.txt into the directory (as well as renaming the directory the way I needed it to be) Then I refreshed. It worked. I tried using old readme.txt files, but for some reason it didn't work. I even copied a readme.txt from the blank plugin on my SelfHosted server to my directory... I ended up with errors on BOTH directories, lol! When I replaced the original readme back into the blank plugin directory, it straighted out, but my plugin still got errors. Weird. Cheers! -- Smug

Ya, I deleted my plugin, imported from the BT Server, replaced the files (except readme.txt) and refreshed. It worked out fine. Cheers! -- Smug

Oh wow! I had to replace the readme file that I created with the default one. LA

Yeah this can also come up if your icon is anything other than a png. And I image that's goes for all files too. So in other words. Extensions matter. -tM http://thecodemonsters.com/

That's odd. My icon is a png file. That part doesn't seem to matter on my system. Almost all of my images are PNG's. Cheers! -- Smug

@Smug Haha yeah, it's supposed to be a png sorry. That's what I meant. See my edit. -tM http://thecodemonsters.com/
