mp4 in html screen plays, not in custom URL

If I make the screen an HTML doc, and have a link in the doc to an mp4 file in my business web site, it opens on my phone and plays. But if I make the screen a custom URL screen, and put in the exact same web address in the URL menu choice, I just get a blank page. Am I stuck with the first way or is there something I'm missing?
