Do we need special ports for Push Notifications self hosted?

Hi All, Does push notifications for self hosted servers have any special requirements? Does it need any special ports open? Thanks, Jake

Push Notifications, like all traffic are going to go through certain ports to connect with Apples APNs. Did a quick search and saw the following: TCP port 5223 (used by devices to communicate to the APNs servers) TCP port 2195 (used to send notifications to the APNs) TCP port 2196 (used by the APNs feedback service) TCP Port 443 (used as a fallback on Wi-fi only, when devices are unable to communicate to APNs on port 5223) Number 2 is of interest to you, although I'd imagine you'd be OK.

Nope, should be OK with a "standard setup." But, you were not alone in PUSH struggles yesterday, today, since the new updates. See this and smile. https://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=9A9D62232E8EAC574F34609

Thanks for all your help. This Self-Hosted issue has been resolved: On Shared Hosting, GoDaddy will not unlock the ports needed. GatorHost will, and they are very affordable. These ports need to be open: 1. Outgoing port 5223 (APN) 2. Outgoing port 2195 (PUSH) 3. Outgoing port 2196 (PUSH) 4. Outgoing Port 443 (SSL) For More Information: http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?fid=50B2476FEC55554A013674D&tid=50B2476FEC55554A013674D Jake

Do I need to open both incoming and outgoing? I'm on simple web hosting and hostgator told me that to do such a thing I need to upgrade to vps… Can I send push just with incoming or just outgoing, or I need both?

As far as I've found just outgoing, hostgator support said they would open ports outgoing on shared hosting, but vps only for incoming and outgoing.
