arm6 arm7 or arm7 arm7s

Haven't submitted to app store in a while and now I see in the build settings a default of arm7 arm7s. I used to use arm6 arm 7. My deployment target is 3.0. What settings are appropriate? Thanks. Steve

You'll need both arm6 and arm7.

Mark, I went ahead and changed it to armv6 and armv7 but now when building (actually before too, which led me to ask the question in the first place) I get the error message Warning: iOS deployment targets lower than 4.3 are not supported (current IPHONEOS_DEPLOYMENT_TARGET = "3.0", ARCHS = "armv7"). Should I go up from 3.4 to 4.3 and if so, do I still keep armv6 and 7 or go back to 7 and 7s? Thanks. Steve

I read something earlier that stated 4.3 covers over 90% of the users out there. So, I think it would be safe to use 4.3, and you likely won't alienate any potential users. Anybody running 3.0 should probably consider upgrading anyway. Mark

97% of iOS is +5.0 thats the recent stats, iOS 6.1 is already at nearly 40%. With the jail break working for ios6 expect the iOS5 users to dwindle away soon too I personally build for ios 5 min as I like to work with the twitter and cocoa codings

I have was given an iPhone 3G, which I use as my main phone, and because it runs up to 4.2.1, I immediately get blocked off from the apps that I want to get. It is so annoying. I personally don't believe in the stats that Kittsay has given (sorry Kittsy) because there will still be several thousand, if not millions of devices that can't run iOS 5. - iPhone EDGE - iPhone 3G - iPod Touch 1st Gen - iPod Touch 2nd Gen - iPod Touch 3rd Gen Those are the devices you block out immediately. My friend's dad still is running iOS 4.3 on his iPhone 4!!! If you can, it's worth it to go to as low iOS as possible without compromising the latest iOS. If you want to go to an iOS lower than 4.3, then you have to use armv6 armv7 If you want to ONLY use iOS higher than iOS 4.3, than use armv7 armv7

You're right as of September 400 million ios devices sold so roughly the 3% equates to 12 million. We are in a world of disposable technology to have a 3G iPhone running is pretty hardcore My mother in law has my old 3GS with ios5 but she ain't downloaded any apps. The developer advice is to make your app as striking as possible and feature rich. If your going to build apps with just menu lists and HTML screens you'll be fine building targeting lower devices. If you want your app to use third party frameworks, fancy features , retina graphics, augmented reality then the newer sdks are the way. The end user won't get a cob on, he will look at his 4 year old device and think hey it's time to upgrade.

To be honest, I had no idea that the iPad went 128GB. It must have just happened a few days ago, because I read somewhere, only 5 days ago, that in march, Apple might release a 128GB version. It's a good £300 off the MacBook Air of the equivalent capacity!

Annandale: It did just go to 128 last week. Wasn't too much fanfare around it.
