Selfhosted 2.18

Oh man... I'm the first having trouble updating.... "I get a Oops, a PHP error was trapped. File: Unknown Line: 0 Message: Directive 'magic_quotes_gpc' is deprecated in PHP 5.3 and greater" If you told me this meant I should go to sleep, I'd believe you. Have no idea what it means... Thanks. Miguel

Straight from the big boys themselves: "Magic Quotes is a process that automagically escapes incoming data to the PHP script. It's preferred to code with magic quotes off and to instead escape the data at runtime, as needed." - http://php.net/manual/en/security.magicquotes.php This means, you need to go to your .htaccess file and set: php_value magic_quotes_gpc off I've never had this problem so I'm not sure this will actually work but hey... it's a start. As said below, it could also be something in your php.ini file. look below for more info. -tM http://thecodemonsters.com/

Magic quotes could be global on your hosting provider also, if you have access to php admin search and see if their on or off.

Just echoing the above... It's related to your php.ini file, wherever that may lie. It's not a BT thing, that is something you or your hosting provider will have to edit/perform. @themonster gave you the link... If you use Network Solutions I can give you some tips; your php.ini file is at the same level as your root, in a dir called 'cgi-bin', and lies directly underneath 'cgi-bin'. AFTER you make your edits, you'll need to delete the file in the '/cgi-bin/.php' directory called 'php.coalesced.ini' in order for your changes to take effect. Cheers! -- Smug

Hey, I've been trying to resslve this issue. I dont seem to have a php.ini. I have wordpress.org on my main domain, and the subdomain /bt-server. In the main root all I have is the .htaccess file. If I add it there, BT-Server page will not load, get a 500 errors. Tried creating a php.ini and copying it to the main root or the bt-server root but still no luck. Any ideas? Thanks. Miguel

The php.ini file is the initialization file for your php infrastructure. If you're on a hosted server, the company who hosts 'should' have some kind of documentation that shows you where that sort of thing is, or should go. But it (usually) goes in a particular place; otherwise odd reactions may occur. But not in your htdocs, or wherever your server root is. php.ini is usually kept in an area of your server that the public does not have access to. I have to get to mine via F.T.P. It will typically be 'above' your web's root directory. Check your providers website for documentation or any kind of mention of PHP/MySQL configuration... it should be in that neighborhood. Let us know how things work out! Cheers! -- Smug

I'm at Lunarpages on a shared server. I've contacted their support. There first answer was this: To turn off the Magic Quotes, place the following line into the php.ini file on the folder where your script located: magic_quotes_gpc = Off Will check what you said. Will let you know. Thanks. Miguel

@Madrod. I have tried php.ini and .htacess. Placed the files in the root directory, in the server directory and in the script directory. Nothing seems to help. I hope you find a solution. I'm desperate.
