PHP requirements self hosted

Hi All, I'm running a self hosted BT panel on a web server running PHP 5.2.17 and everything works fine. However, I need to upgrade to PHP 5.3.x to run another web application and was wondering if anyone has had any issues running self hosted BT servers on PHP 5.3.x I'd think this would be ok but I thought I'd ask before I break something and lose a day or two putting it back in place :) TIA Darrel

Should be fine, like you said. I'm running my server on 5.3 and all is fine.

@Smug so true, nothing like losing a weekend to rebuild a server :( And especially when you have apps out there depending on the backend! cheers

You guys are right. PHP can be pain at times. I believe it also depends on you server hosting provider. I've used many hosts over the years and all of them put me through hell. I am using inmotionhosting at the moment. The have been very helpful on a couple of occasions especially with PHP and SQL side.

Yeah I use Godaddy, and that's pretty much only because I manage my own dedicated (uber powerful) server with them. They mostly provide support. Which is funny because that's the only reason why my 3 month BT_server problem ended was me thinking, you know what. Let's just write a ticket to godaddy. They responded and found the problem that I couldn't in months. Haha I guess that shows you how much I know about PHP.

That's why when it's running well I'm reluctant to make a change to the hosting environment. Good to hear you got some good support! I'm with hostgator on shared hosting, they seem to be better than a few of the others I've used in the past.

I'm creating my self hosted environment on 1&1 and I have an option of selecting php 5.2 or 5.4 I see that others have posted they are using 5.3 Am I ok to us 5.4? or should I be safe and use 5.2?

If they're running 5.3 it's because 5.4 wasn't out yet. Most 5.x versions should be ok. Cheers! -- Smug
