Adding video streaming from Livestream

Hi guys I'll be honest, this is my first app - I'm really enjoying getting my head around it and things seem to be going smoothly this far. I have experience in web dev etc although I'm by no means a ninja. I'm working on an Android app for my site which has a 24/7 streaming music video channel but I can't for the life of me get it to work. I tested with Youtube embeds too and I can't for the life of me get them to work. I'm using the Custom HTML plugin and coding for Android only at the moment. I've tried various ways of posting the iframe wrapped embed codes in and nothing.... :( Any tips would be greatly welcomed. Thanks guys

Well, I've heard a lot of folks say you can't really link to you tube; the reason is the dynamic versus direct URL. You 'can' use the launch native app to launch you tube to a predetermined video... If your video has a 'direct' link (http://yourserver.com/direct/link/to/file.mp3) then it should work. But stuff like "http://myshort.lnk?idyqmekduby" doesn't seem to do so well... You might think about ATrain's video player, but like You Tube, it requires a direct link. Good luck in that! Cheers! -- Smug

I've had luck running youtube through the custom url plugin. Then when you link it to youtube make sure your address is m.youtube.com

@Terry Mitchell: I echo what @Smug says about the link and be careful the type of audio format it is with Android. Maybe you can share the type of problems you are experiencing? @Outbreak: How long has it been since you streamed through youtube using the m.youtube link? Every time I try that it doesn't work. LA

@LA You're right. It's probably been awhile. I get the spinning wheel when it plays.

Thanks for your input guys, after more research I've decided to give up on the mobile 'live' stream as the audio quality just isn't good enough for our radio station. I checked the sound through 'Livestream''s own app (I wanted a personalised one for my station as we embed the player on our own site rather than use Livestream's site) and the sound sucks! Would still love to stream Youtube videos which we embed in 'show libraries' on our site through the app. So because of the embedded nature of the videos on our site I was really hoping to avoid using the native Youtube app.... But with embedded video I'm just getting a black square on my test app where the video should be.... Nothing more :( So from what you guys are saying I'd need to access m.youtube or use the youtube app.... Both of which are of no use to me, seems like I'll have to wait a few years for the technology to catch up?? Thanks for your time, if anyone can think of a workaround I'd be very interested! :)

@Terry Mitchell, What format are you using on your server, mp4 or mp3? The audio should have good quality. How are you testing the stream, device or emulator? Can you email e on here the link so I can try? @Outbreak: lol thought I was missing something because I tried and tried..lol LA

Well, that's the thing - it's Livestream: A video streaming outfit that stream my station for me. So it's video, when I enable the mobile function the quality is reduced to 64kbps audio on the video, this is how 'Livestream' encode their mobile stream. So the file is a type of Mp4 I think. When I try to embed the proper stream rather than mobile 'Livestream's' servers detect it's mobile and enforce the mobile bitrate streaming... Which as I said, doesn't quite cut it. If I can't find a way to stream the embedded youtube shows then I want to maybe incorporate a way of streaming/downloading just the audio of the recorded shows STRICTLY within the app. Thanks again for the speedy response LA :)

No problem @Terry Mitchell. You could embed the youtube video into your website and then link it to an App but like you said it would reduce the quality. LA
