Ads in our apps

Hello all I do not have any ads in my apps but have had offers. Can anyone tell me how lucrative ads can be in your apps. Is it worth it? I just never thought about putting ads in any of my apps but would like to know other people experiences.

I haven't published an App yet. It's close. That's how I plan to make my revenue. Free App, charge for ads. I'm looking at a local market. My apps are locally oriented. We're an Island way out in the Pacific, so my demographic may be different. Cheers! -- Smug

Really hit and miss in my experience. I dont think anyone knows how Apple calculate it but you need to target Countries where the fill rate is high to start with, such as the US. I have made good money but also had reasonable download rates and make next to nothing. It depends on so many things, not just downloads. How many times they return to the app, if the ad is displayed, if it is clicked. My most successful free app was a soundboard that, at its peak was getting 10,s of thousands of downloads a day. It was ahead of angry birds rio and twitter at one stage! However, it did rubbish figures in iAd. I wish I knew the secret! Good luck!

I need to get into other forms of advertising, such as Adsense, iAd probably isn't the best.

Adsense is content based through, so that would need to be placed on webpages INSIDE of your app, heh, tough to do a balance between native. David https://buzztouchmods.com

Has anyone tried using the menu with image to create custom ads? Using the image as an ad that, when clicked, would load some other content? At least then you'd have some control over what ads appear, and could maybe get companies to sign a contract paying for months at a time. Just a thought... Josh

Good idea Josh, but think your app would need to getting lots of traffic or have a following of a specific type of traffic that would interest advertisers? Very well worth looking into! David https://buzztouchmods.com

I use to work in marketing and advertising and ads can pay you well, but its all dependent on traffic. Advertisers want to know really a few things: 1. How many unique visits per month 2. How many page impressions per month 3. How frequently content is updated However this only applies if you are using a specialised ad agency. If you want to do will, you need to work on driving traffic. For some of my clients projects I'm working on, they get out 1.6 million unique visits per month and about 8 million page impressions per month through its mobile platform; as a result of this I am able to get them anywhere between £3($5) per 1000 impressions, that works out to be about £3000 per million impressions per month. Principles work for mobile applications as well. Something to aim for. Good Luck!
