Blackberry 10 Support?

Hey BT team, Are there any plans in the product roadmap to add support for building apps for the Blackberry 10 platform? I know they've lost market-share, but there's still a huge community of BB users and with the release of BB10, I think they'll claw back. Think it would be a definite asset to your offering. Nic

@285Solutions - I don't think there's too much work in porting an Android app over to Blackberry 10. Blackberry had a competition a while ago to convert apps from Android to Blackberry and win a BB10 tablet, I think a number of people on here won a tablet. GoNorthWest was one? I'm sure a guide will appear, if there isn't one already.

Yes, its possible. I received a tablet as well. Last weekend I actually participated in the last Portathon before the new BB10 comes out. Converting from Android to Blackberry is not complicated. They have an online tool or you can download the adt plugin. For buzztouch apps just make sure you remove references to Google Maps. From the following files: AndroidManifest.xml - Bt_Items - I removed the bt_screen_map all together because those apps did not require it. I will also be attending the BB Jam in Amsterdam next month so I'll be able to report back if there is anything cool and worth shouting about. But the BB10 looks great. I have to step out but I'll find those post where we posted help for the Blackberry Edit: Relevant post (has a few related post to help): http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=94853F81D812E025BA0A000&command=isSearching&currentPage=1&topicTitle=blackberry&createdBy=&repliedBy=&minViews=-1&maxViews=-1&minReplies=-1&maxReplies=-1&forumCategory= Blackberry Tools: http://developer.blackberry.com/android/tools/

Maybe it's time to whip up a tutorial on how to convert Android apps to BB! In the meantime, here's a tutorial that shows how to remove the maps dependency from your app, which is the current stumbling block on converting to BB using their online tool: http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=009D5ED602E8D09C55D6225 Hope this helps a bit! Nice one @mysps! @GoNorthWest - Good idea Mark. I understand that Blackberry phones are moving over to BB10 soon. An ideal time for a tutorial probably. Blackberry's a huge market in the UK, all the kids have them, for organising riots etc...

Porting my buzztouch 2.0 was pretty easy for me.. but I couldn't get any PDFs or videos to work after I ported. I'll give half of my buzztouch shares to whoever can incorporate those features in a tutorial/figure it out.

I've managed it to BlackBerry, but my here are the figures for my free app that I've published for all the platforms. Same app, same everything. These are rounded roughly: iOS Devices: 9,700 downloads Android Devices: 6,300 downloads BlackBerry Devices: 630 downloads Looking back, it was too much effort for just getting on that platform.

hmmmmm - an interesting stat - and maybe a sign of those times. under these circumstances i would agree it would not have been worth the effort. i suspect, however, you'll see an increase in BB downloads with the launch of BB10 and the new BB App World.

Well, hopefully when the new BB App World comes out, they've improved the apps. When I converted one of my Android ones to BB, and as a result was awarded a tablet, the amazing this was...the app crashed! I was never able to use it, though it made it through the BB review process! And every other app I downloaded and used, aside from some of the more professional games, was of super low quality. I ended up selling my PlayBook, because I just couldn't justify keeping it. Perhaps things have improved with BB 10...will be interesting to see. Mark

Yes, I think the BB10 will change things. I gave mine playbook to my mom as well. I have actually never owned anything blackberry however I see this could be changing soon! @Annandale Apps I still think any download is better than no downloads from any market. Holding all of your eggs in one basket is never really good and because the BB App market is sort of new, its better for you and all that have approved apps there. It could be a great thing. Time will tell :) Im excited to see something new!
