DUDES!!!! OR DUDETTES?...ok had to do my Northwest Thing...Hosting Question

So...need some opinions if you don't mind sharing. Starting to get clients in and helping out with hosting. Any suggestions who? Great number of clients with apps... Rackspace? Amazon? GoDaddy? HostGator? BlueHost? Thanks for insights Sheri

Rackspace? - You got tons of money? Solid service Amazon? - Still have concerns about them as cloud hosts, some love them though. GoDaddy? - Some of the most reliable linux hosting at good cost but kill elephants. I use them. HostGator? - Been around for a good while, know what they are doing. Bottom to middle type. BlueHost? - Not the biggest on the planet, cheaper and prob 2 nines up time.

The best host for my money is KnownHost. Service is top-notch and their rates are very competitive. I've run a managed VPS with them for about 3 years. Andy

VPS is a Virtual Private Server. Basically it gives you complete control as if it was your own private computer. Much better and stable than shared hosting, but also more expensive. Not everybody needs a VPS.

Uptime is measure in 9's. Two 9's is 99% 5 nines is as good as you'll get 99.999% uptime. VPS (virtual private server) is essentially a server split into separate accounts, each account acting like a dedicated server but sharing the box resources. Some hosts over subscribe these where shared resources can become slim, some don't. In effect a VPS acts like a dedicated server (your own box) but resources are split up among users.

What he said! VPS changed the game 8 yrs ago, for me was back in the .net days and is still a valid solution. As Andy says though they can get expensive.

Not simple at all. I know zilch, nada, sod all, but worked in the hosting field for a while. Some of it is engrained like a song from my teens, some of it has vanished like a, well, vanishing thing. @AndyDahl - Hope this finds you well. My head hurts right now.

I agree VPS is the best solution especially for hosting app and traffic. No shared servers :/ I've used Turnkey Internet for the past two years and have been extremely happy. There was a black friday offer that I took at advantage of and i'm hardly paying anything for it! Speed fast and support awesome.

Hi Sheri, I use ProHosters, and have been for about 15 years now! I absolutely love them, their prices are super cheap for the VPS plan, and their service is exceptional. I'd recommend them strongly! Mark

Yep! And they've only had a price increase once the entire time! Went from $10/month to $25/month. Tons of great features...I host many domains on a single account. And what I love the most is ssh access to my account. Good stuff!

I use Host Gator, very pleased. Moved from GoDaddy, like the commercials but not much else. Tim

BlueHost - 3 years never a glitch. Love them. OneWorld - used for over 10 years for my own stuff, but moved when they started to put limits on MYSQL databases. LunarPages - big fan as well. agreed on Network Solutions - why not host where all the A records are stored? a little more expensive - but I've had my companies website hosted there since 1996! Network Solutions has the best DNS and you'll usually see less hops if traceroute from your host. Latency is everything.... and make sure you do Private Registration for your domains!
