Mentoriing Program

Hey, I'm new here, obviously, and I am going down the self hosted path for good or bad as I intend to make a business out of apps whether for myself or for clients is yet to be determined. So my suggestion based on one webinar and a few hours browsing the forum is that Buzztouch could initiate some kind of mentoring program. You already have "Buzztouch U" to me it makes sense to expand on this. For example there are some very skilled and knowledgeable people here they could perhaps take on small mentoring groups. I know that I would be happy to pay a small fee for such an opportunity. Regards Ron

Ya the how to section is great but I still think there is space for a mentoring program of some kind.

This idea has been thrown around a few times, but never initiated. Now that buzztouch has a bigger team to pull from, we are starting to prioritize some of these ideas that have been around for a while. I can't promise you "when", but I'll keep it on the to-do list! -Chris

I would totally agree. As you stated...I would pay for such a service. A way for the Dev's to make some side cash as well. I like to learn a lot on my own but sometimes you need that extra "push" to get to that next skill level. Great idea

@Mobwurd Ceud Mìle Fàilte! Been to Dun Carloway on many an occasion. Happy days to that! You may well be the first Outer Hebrides man I've seen on here. There isn't a part of your Island I haven't seen. My dad grew up on Lewis and I spent many of my summers in Aird Tong and always try and visit when I fly back across the pond! Please don't ever hesitate to shout if you need anything. Far better folk on here than me to help you but a Lewis man shall always have my number. Grinning like a cheshire cat here. Ps My son is even called Lewis!

Unrelated sidenote: After I clicked on Mobwurd's location and followed the link to google maps, I had to zoom out almost to the max to even realize where I was. (Thanks to my American public schooling, I was an honors student, so they allowed me to skip geography so I could take "more important" things like government and sociology. Thanks for that!)

@Stobe Have a look here: http://www.callanishvisitorcentre.co.uk It's on the same small island. Loved this place, have made a few trips during the summer solstice. Nothing like it. Don't be hard on yourself re Geography, same everywhere.

@MacApple, It's a small world. We are not native to the Island, we moved here almost 6 years ago to escape the rat race so to speak and for the benefit of our children. Our 2 youngest both started school here and are educated in Gealic primarily. My wife will be opening and running the visitor centre at the Carloway Broch here http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/lewis/duncarloway/ The next time you visit the Island you should let me know and drop by for a dram or two. So the first BT powered app I am working on is called "Western Isles Explorer". Regards Ron

@Mobwurd Excellent. My folks have a couple of friends just outside Stornoway that did the same thing. They've got a small croft, cut their own peats and so on. Great to hear the kids are Gaelic speakers, some good people trying to keep the language alive. My dad still speaks it of course, being an older Lewis man he didn't speak English until school. Will keep in touch, looking forward to the app. Lots of good content up there!
