Live mode, design mode

Hello all, So I was playing with live/design yesterday and want to compare notes with anyone else testing this great new feature. I quickly realized that I needed to download the entire project into Xcode to get it to work. At least this was easier than picking through the individual files to see what needed to be copied and pasted. I first tried to just copy and paste just the config file and it didn't work c After the new complete download and compiling it worked perfectly except for one thing. The little green dot didn't turn red when I made a simple menu list order change like David did in his video. This could be because I an using PSMDannys really cool plugin BT menu design. Not sure though because I haven't tried it on an app with a simple menu yet. Even though the green dot didn't turn red when I made the simple little change in my BT control panel, it didn't come through to my phone until I hit publish at which time I refreshed the app and the change was made. Beautiful job David Book! I love this feature. Has anyone else been playing with this new feature? Any similar results? Thanks Dave

It's a neat feature that I'm sure will come in handy.

I played with it with one test app but I'm waiting for the push notifications and then I'll redownload the packages for the app store live apps in order to submit an update.

Dave, I'm not sure why you didn't see a red light (maybe a browser thing? it takes a few seconds to change). It shouldn't be related to any particular plugin, since its looking for changes in the BT_config.txt, which would be altered by any plugin. And to clarify, the changes made to your project to make this work are in the core files, in addition to the BT_config.txt having a few new parameters. So you would have to download a new source and open it in Xcode to see the new features work (or copy and paste a few core files into your existing project, which may be more hassle than its worth, lol). And what I like about it is that if you do nothing, everything works the same as it did previously. That is some great foresight by David to make sure adding a new feature doesn't "break" something in the process.

@Stobe, In sum, you don't have to use it, correct? LA

@LA, you are correct. And since you were in the last webinar, you'll remember my initial confusion about how it worked, and luckily David explained it to me quite thoroughly. To clarify, if you have an old project that was created and downloaded before the live/design mode was put in, its essentially working in "design mode", which means whatever you change in the control panel, will be "seen" real-time to both your simulator and all the current users. If you change your compiled application to "live" mode (by changing the one parameter in the BT_config.txt file) then that "version" of the app will not see any control panel changes until you "publish" the changes (red button/green button).

BEYOND excited for this on Self Hosted. This is HUGE, much needed and an awesome, simple implementation so far as David has shown in the webinars. Looks very easy to use. Now I understand why he was so excited about it last month when he was hinting at something big! Great job David! Thanks!

So if I have an app that is already live pre 2.1.8 it will be in design mode until I recompile and publish to the app store with the live mode code contained in it? Or can I just update the config data to have the live mode active and push that as a menu refresh so that everyone is in live mode?

Pretty sure you have to recompile and resubmit to the App Store. Be sure to change design to live in the config or just use the live config file.

I am a new user to BT and i noticed this live vs design feature and i understand it to an extent but i am not quite sure what and if i need to be touching it. I have created an app that is almost ready for the app store and im not sure if i need to touch this publish section before or after i submit it. What should i be doing and do i need to change something in the config section (im no coder BTW). Thanks.
