Keep stream playing when changing pages/apps on Android?

Hi people, First real post in the forum so be gentle if I haven't found, or missed, the answer in previous posts. Been 'trawling'. I am trying to make an app to play a shoutcast radio stream and it appears to be going ok so far, the problem I face now is keeping the stream playing when you change pages or leave the app. A pointer in the right direction to the code, and where to put it, to allow the app to keep playing the stream, and hopefully add an icon in the notifications bar whilst active, or a tutorial for this would be really appreciated. I am only doing this on Android at present if this helps. Small knowledge at the moment of coding etc so simple is good :) Enjoying the site a lot, learning loads but obviously not quickly enough..... Thanks in advance for any help that may be given.

I have no answer for you, but I'm following because it sounds interesting. I remember doing shoutcast with some kind of winamp server or encoder or something. This was a while back. How do you implement it on mobile? Cheers! -- Smug

Hi Smug, I am using a streaming service to relay my radio station and with a little digging you can 'extract' the mp3 stream and use this to play in mobile. Thanks to some very clever people on here and elsewhere I have now got it all together in an app. Hoping to get the answer to this final bit of the puzzle and then it will be all systems go..... There are several established apps with the feature I am looking for but they do not just use one stream and are for all internet radio stations. I'm trying to do this just to promote my own (very selfish :-)) It's got to be possible, just knowing how is the problem for me.... Lets hope we both get an answer, It's a big learning curve when you start to explore a new interest. I'm sure someone will be able to give us a clue, they all seem very nice and very knowledgeable on here.
