age of my Mac

Hi all, I have an ancient Mac (2007) that I recently put OSX 10.6.8 on (probably as far as I can go). I have Xcode, but obviously not the latest version. Will my apps on BT work with this set-up, or do I need to save for a new computer?? Thanks in advance!

Hello CampGirl, My MacBook pro is from 2006. I'm running the latest OS and Xcode 4.2. Using Buzztouch 2.0 and everything works great.

What Calypso said. :-) I'm using a MacBookPro3,1 from '07 with Mountain Lion and its working great with the latest Xcode. Everything related to Buzztouch for iOS is working fine!

Really?? Sweet! I figured I'd slow mine down so much it wouldn't be worth it to try to even upgrade to Mountain Lion!

Hi @CampGirl, As noted above, everything will work with buzztouch. You may have to make a few code adjustments as buzztouch code is optimized for iOS6, and you (me as well...stuck at Snow Leopard) can't run the iOS6 SDK. You also won't be able to create apps that are optimized for the lastest iOS level. They'll run, but you won't be able to compile for iOS6 because you don't have the SDK. To future proof yourself, if you could get a newer Mac, that would help for sure! But you can at least do the majority of your work with what you have. Mark

@GoNorthWest, thanks so much. SDK is within the XCode, right? So I just can't download iOS6. Yet. =) The saving begins. Thanks again!

Yep, the SDK is the Software Development Kit, and contains the files you need to develop for iOS 6. It's used in Xcode. You can download iOS 6 for any devices you have, but just not the SDK for Xcode. Total bummer...I'm in the same boat!

Yeah, and I just tried running an app and get that error people are talking about in another thread... The one David seems to be working on? What about following the link they mentioned to see if I can get iOS6 on my Snow Leopard- have you done that? Maybe I'm missing something...

I looked at that stackoverflow link as well, but decided against trying it. Doesn't seem super stable on a 32-bit Mac mini running Snow Leopard. It's a hack, and hacks and Apple don't seem to go well together! If everybody buys my Notepad plugin, perhaps someday I can afford a MacBook!

Sorry about the double post. @GoNorthWest, I'm glad I didn't try it then! We'll have to spread the word about your Notepad plugin- and do you have apps out in the world too? So do you know how to get rid of that error message with the setup I have?

What error message do you have? I have a couple apps out there...all free! You can check my developer profile to check them out!

Yep, that's the method that requires SDK 4.5. As David mentions in the above thread, if you change that method (or delete it) you run the risk of Apple rejecting your app because of how your app will save files to iCloud. If that becomes an issue, an alternative would be to allow someone else to compile your completed project on a newer computer. A lot of trust would be involved, since you'd have to supply your provisioning profiles, etc. BTW, is that Martinsville, VA?

@Stobe, I see what you mean. I do have someone I could allow to compile my completed project, so maybe that's where I'll go next. And yes, we're in Martinsville VA! New transplants to the land of Nascar, with no particular affinity towards the race car world... =) But very nice people we've met!! How far away is Fredericksburg?

I'm guessing around 3-4 hours? But it's nice to see another Virginia resident around here. I was beginning to think there was something wrong with us, lol!

If you can, double the size of your RAM for $20-40. That will help to run Mountain Lion more efficiently. I buy my RAM at http://www.transintl.com/ -- Niraj
