Problems launching in Eclipse

Hi all, I usually use xcode/ios but want to turn my hand to Android applications as well. After downloading my project source and opening the instructions I see that the new version of eclipse is different from the screenshots provided. I had a look through the forum and found a good tutorial video and I was able to follow it through and installed the google SDK kits. I have been unable to open the project as the instruction sheet suggests but was able to get it open in eclipse by using the import function. However, every time I import my project it automatically sets as Android 4.2 and I then receive a whole list of errors relating to the BT_item.java and BT_screen_map.java Anyone able to suggest where I'm going wrong? Thanks in advance

Howdy, Yep, easy fix! Right-click on your package in Project Explorer, select Properties > Android, and then switch to the Google API that you want to use. Minimum required Google API is 8, but you can use newer ones. That'll resolve all those errors you see. You can also rename your package in Project Explorer by right-clicking, select Refactor, and then Rename. That'll just rename it in Eclipse, but not touch any of the code. Hope this helps! Mark

This happens to your project in Eclipse. I recommend watching the YouTube videos that GoNorthWest has put on YouTube. The mistake you're making is you're going to have to set it to Google API 8, not Andriod ... Here is setting everything up correctly, so when you upload to Eclipse, everything works well. http://youtu.be/SFGF3_r9YIA Here is how you actually upload it to Eclipse without errors. Plase watch the first video first though. http://youtu.be/NV3Ofi2602I

Hi Annandale Apps, Thanks for they links, I watched the first one earlier (was having trouble trying to get the Google SDK installed and found it on an earlier post). Will give the other one a watch to make sure I'm following it through properly.

Xcode, to me, is a thousand times easier. I'm still learning Eclipse, but I can safely say it's more difficult. The program looks tacky and not neatly layed out. The buttons are in illogical places. The code is more complex to understand and you have to download SDKs are stuff before you develop. If you can crack it, that'll really develop your app development and understand more platforms.

To be fair, Xcode has it's share of difficulties as well. You also have to download an iOS SDK before you can develop anything. Setup of Xcode is a lot easier, but it's got lots of widgets that are troubling as well. It's just a matter of learning, and soon you'll become a master of both!

Xcode vs Android to me, is like Mac vs PC in the early 80s. Apple is very rigid and strict; Android is wild and anything goes. Just my opinion. Glad Mark gotcha hooked up, Nathan. Stop by with more questions when they pop up! Cheers! -- Smug

Totally agree with Smug's assessment! Android is basically out of control!
