Images appear huge in iOS simulators

Hi, I need my app to be able to work on both iOS and Android, but I'm having problems with the image sizes. For example I have created background images which are 640wx1136h for small devices. These work great on an Android phone emulator and the proportions are perfect. On an iPhone simulator however, they are enormous, which means only some of the background appears. I have the same problem with text size. When set to 25 for small devices, it's great on Android but way too big on iOS. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hello, Did you try changing you simulator in Xcode? I think while your in Xcode click on device and change it to retina. I'm not in front of my computer right now so I can't be 100% sure on what to click

I can't see how to change the simulator, other than between iPad, iPhone and iOS 5 and 6 options. There's every chance I'm missing something though as I've no idea where to look!

Go up to the menu buttons.......File, Edit, Window etc. I'm pretty sure there is a choice for your simulator up there with a drop down of all of the simulator choices. Again, I'm not in front of my computer so I can't guide you to the exact location. Sorry

Got it! It appears I have to open a simulator and then using the simulator menu (as opposed to the main menu, which doesn't have a retina option) go to hardware> device and select retina from there. Thanks Calypso kid, that's going to be useful in future. Unfortunately, it doesn't solve my problem though. The images are still massive. Anyone got any other ideas?

in the simulator application menu bar click "window" then "scale" and change the scale to 75% or 50%

The scale of the simulator isn't the problem- I've got that sussed. The problem is that only the very centre of my splash screen is showing, even if I can see the full simulator. It's actually ok on iPad, but a problem on iPhone (retina or not) and iPad retina. Hope that makes sense!

ok, I think I had the same problem recently. For the splash screen image I had to use an iphone 3s image. It was full screen and looked the same on the 4 screen. When I tried to use a 5 (4-inch) image it looked fine on the 5 but blew up on the 3 and 4 sims. I just had to use a 3 image and it came up short on the 5 screen so I changed the background color to match. My image was fairly simple though so that might not work. I might try to make the 320x480 image a bit longer to 320x568 so the quality isn't retina but should fit the 4-inch screen. Ryan

Thanks, I'll have a play around with image sizes and see what I can do. I'm going to end up with one set for Android and one for iOS I think. Bizarrely, the menu backgrounds (exactly the same size as the splash) are fine on all iOS simulators!

ya those have always looked fine. I turned off the splash screen when I submitted my apps and will turn it back on when approved to avoid that being a "design" issue.
