Restaurant app

Hi, I'm new to app development and would like to learn how to make apps. Where do I start? Can any experts help me develop a restaurant app? Thanks.

Welcome! Here, YOU are the expert and you have a ton of people in this forum and the BTU to learn. Do a little reading in the how-to section and watch the videos in the BTU section and before you know it you have your first app. It happened to me. I went from no knowledge to 2 apps in the app store in less than 6 months. Whenever you get stumped, just come to this forum and everyone here is waiting to help. Welcome again and remember, have fun! Dave

Hi and welcome to Buzztouch. There are a load of resources on the BT site to get you started. The BTU classes will give you a better understanding of things tie in and the How-To's also have some great and helpful reads. Like this one from forum ninja @GoNorthWest - https://www.buzztouch.com/files/howtos/Things_You_Need_Before_You_Start_Developing_Apps_v1.1.pdf You'll not need an expert to help you build it, I'm sure you can knock it yourself but everyone on here will be willing to help out if you hit any stumbling clocks along the way. So, dive in, get your hands dirty and you are on your way. Don't ever hesitate to post on here and shout for assistance! Again, welcome to BT, you've found something slick, well supported and most importantly, a whole lot of fun.

@Squareit Welcome to Buzztouch, it's a great community, very helpful as well. It's best to start off with the BTU videos to get the basics and then go from there. https://www.buzztouch.com/account/learningPaths.php It's also a good idea to check out some of the documentation for getting started. http://www.buzztouch.com/resources/ Especially the thing you need to know to develop apps. http://www.buzztouch.com/files/howtos/Things_You_Need_Before_You_Start_Developing_Apps_v1.1.pdf Take a look and if you have any questions post back here. Cheers Darrel

@ictguy - Love it! So cool when a load of folk all try to welcome a new user! Remember couple of years back when @GoNorthWest and I would almost run competitions to see who was first. He knocks me into touch every time.

Welcome! With the information you've given us, I don't think anyone would be able to help. Not your fault. I think the hardest part of building an app is figuring out what you want the app to do and how it all fits together In a way you're happy with. What works for me, but not for everyone, is to write down everything I can think of to do with the app, what I want it to do, how I want it to look, then draw a map starting with the home screen and leading to all the other screens, when it's mapped out I can look at what I want each screen to do and see which bt plugin will do the job, or maybe bt can't do it and I need to use a webservice, or it can't be done at all with my limited knowledge, so I drop it. At this stage you would be able to ask more specific questions about screens on the forum that people will be more than willing to answer much more thoroughly and technically than just a generic welcome post. Hope that helps a bit, or you find the best way for you, and good luck!

@raveyd Makes the comment of the thread! Getting your idea down on paper, roughing it up, get an idea of what screens leads to what and in turn what they do. I started doing it after first couple of apps and now it is a first and must!

Here's a simple menu image: https://www.dropbox.com/s/qkyac4ppn4zlh47/iOS%20Simulator%20Screen%20shot%20Oct%2017%2C%202012%2012.14.23%20PM.png Are you making an app for a restaurant that has asked for one? If so they should make sure they have a marketing plan that works the app into existing marketing and their digital properties. They may find that having a mobile website is a better option. Look at using the push-notification ability of apps to re-engage customers. Ryan

Echoing RaveyD, I find if I 'story board' my app ideas, I get focused a lot quicker. There are a million cool tools to mock up an app, but the best and least expensive is a legal pad and a pen. Once you have some kind of a game plan on your desired functionality, come on back and let's do this! Cheers! -- Smug

Love it. Man, need to scan my last 15 page outline in and then show you the app. All will be revealed soon. Love that. Brilliant. Boy does it help though. I'll have to move on to recycled paper soon, can't kill any more rainforest.

Thanks for your advice guys! I want to do both iPhone and android app. But I guess I'll start with android coz I don't hv a Mac yet. The features I'm looking to add to the app: 1. Food ordering (ecommerce) 2. Reservations 3. Push notification - promotions 4. GPS directions 5. Reviews - pulled from yelp, or other sites. 6. Other pages like menu, about us, contact us
