Great QR Code resource for developer promotion.

I hope this is the right venue. "Uncategorized" is closed, and I wasn't entirely sure where this should go. In any event. As much as I hate QR Codes, some people love them. At http://www.unitaglive.com/qrcode (and be sure to locate the 'flag' that allows you to change language) you can create rather nifty QR Codes for free that allow for customization, such as colors, styles, and logos (see my neat new avatar?) "When" my app is published, I plan to put up QR Codes on my website, with Android and Apple Logos, so someone can just use their phone to directly go to my app page on the app store/google play. If nothing else, they look cool. Cheers! -- Smug PS, if you're curious why I hate QR codes, it's because you really don't know what information lies behind the graphic. It's like Pandoras Box. You're basically trusting the source, and you'll never find out until it's too late what the results are. Paranoid? Absolutely. But, I'm still here. ;)

Chuckling at hating QR codes, had a similar conversation with a realtor recently. AR will replace it eventually, do something cool and interactive. That said, still like QR codes, they can still serve a purpose. Good info mate!

I understand that Android has a larger QR Code following than Apple, but I'm not a 'droid guy (have a rooted Nook, but that't it... no camera, very limited). I've tried QR codes in my day job (I work at the local daily newspaper) trying to push readers to promotions and content, but have had very weak response. It's also probably fallout of our demographic here too... older, snowbirds, seasonal. But: If Apple ever embraced QR Codes and built it into iOS, say with Siri or something ("Siri, scan this code for me") that would be a big deal. You'd see that little square bar code on everything in a week! But right now as an iPhone guy I think the barrier to entry is to high for most on QR Code usage.

Florida and QR codes, no comment, hilarious! My crazy old uncle drives down there every winter, again, no comment. Handle bar mustache is the best of him.

Don't worry about which category to put the thread in. It's not too serious, as we almost always reply to posts that are on the forum landing page.

Thanks for sharing the tip. I am not a big fan but I have seen some really cool qr code, can't wait to get cracking. I do think that they are sometime overused or used improperly though. To use a qr code on a website so you can scan it and download an app on your mobile : make sense. To use a qr code that is just a link to another webpage: i don't understand what is the point. It seems that for some there is no thought process as to what they gain from it: they just want one. Do you also see that in your part of the planet or is it just me?

That would depend on which part of my side of the planet. In Japan, QR Codes are very very BIG. You don't see anything in print that doesn't have a QR code for the user to find more info, or get a discount, or something. They're doing it complete. In Guam, as part of the US, we echo the US's ambivalence about the whole thing. BUT we get a LOT of Japanese tourists. So it's worth having in some sense, but not a lot. I haven't been to the Philippines or other places recently, so I can't be sure. But I'll certainly ask. Cheers! -- Smug

It's good to know what other are doing. We get a lot of tourists here in Gibraltar from all over the worlds and a lot from America. It is probably worth having them within reason. I had some crazy requests about adding QR codes to websites, very funny. Reminds me of a website I visited recently, it will make your day - it made mine! www.clientsfromhell.net Farcat
