Need Hosting Advice For Streaming Audio

Hey All, I need some advice on hosting my audio files to stream on my application. I currently have an application that has done very well over the past year and has been hosted with the Amazon S3 Solution. I've tried other web hosting companies and the speed of the data transfer has not been the best. I've found that the S3 service has been the most productive solution but, has begun to put the profits into a loss or wash due to its high tiered pricing costs. We transfer out an Avg of 1.4 TB of music a month. Does anyone know of another solution that might work for my needs. I've searched around but am at a loss. Any advice would be great. Thanks Anthony

You could use a podcasting service, like I use for Buzzcast. You get limited amount of storage per month, but they don't limit any throughput. For example: if you pay for their "400" plan, you get to upload 400 mb per month, meaning at month 2 you'll have up to 800mb, month 3 = 1200mb, etc. This type service is considered a media host, and is optimized for streaming media. Send me a PM if you want the name of the company I use. -Chris

Bluehost and OneWorld both have unlimited FILE Transfer http://www.bluehost.com/ http://www.oneworldhosting.com/ I've used them both for years and streamed lots of audio/video. Slow speeds for these usually are usually the fault of a local ISP. I can't imagine hosting outfits that size can't serve up some audio files at satisfactory speeds? But if you have tied them, then you might want to look for a host that boasts they are a Tier 1 host. They should be bragging about 'backbone' and offering '100MB Transfer Speeds'.

1.4 TB/month is greater than "unlimited". (my experience). There are always sufficient clauses in the ToS to simply remove any hosting client that actually uses the amount of bandwidth they are promised. 1 pissed off client versus the other couple hundred that are actually using about 100mb per month is a valid tradeoff for them. With your amount of traffic, you're doing the right thing by using S3 or the other type of service we discussed.
