Test flight and third party developing

With a couple of apps commissioned for third party's has anyone had experience in this area? Firstly I'm interested in test flight. Has anyone used this with BT? Secondly, whilst I know it's recommended that the apps are created under the third party's own apple developer account, is this required? I think it's the only sensible option but wanted to know the definitive. Many thanks, Alex

I use TestFlight, it works well, just have to make sure that your testers add their device etc, also be sure to add their devices to your iOS profile before compiling the app.

I have used Testflight, no for a large amount of people though, half a dozen at most and it worked well. I have seen people say that they don't enjoy it though and it can be slow on occasion. My experience? It works/ As for developing under client account, it gives you yearly buy in / support when renewal time comes around. You see? They'll need you again, bang, $'s. They can get their own stats, downloads, reviews etc with no input from you.

I use Testflight - IMO it's @ 50/50 that when you invite a user they will follow the instructions and get the profile installed on their phone. After the profile is installed - they have to come back and install the app after I have then premitted them to install the build. So it's really a 2 step tango - with a slight delay in the middle - but testers think it all happens in one step and instantly. To me the first impression is everything - so I now opt to pick a few users and then go on site and install the Test Flight and the app on users devices myself. For far remote testers, I call and walk them thru it. It seems like it should be easier, but my experience says it's not when you're dealing with real end users - esp ones you're trying to sell something to. There are other services, but when deployed properly, Test Flight is great. and fwiw - there is a BT OTA feature on Self Hosted that works like test flight. I've used this sucessfully, it's pretty basic but it does work. but Test Flight has an SDK that allows you to track sessions and other stuff, incl Crash Reports if you set it up - BT OTA is not this advanced. have any of you posting here used the BT OTA?

I have no experience with Test Flight so I can't comment on that; however, as an IT Consultant with 23 years experience I can address your second item. Generally, when someone hires you to develop an app they own all rights to the product, unless specifically denoted in the contract and signed by both parties. If they own the rights then you do as they wish and use their developer account. I suspect they want you to use their developer account so they can maintain control over their app. If the third party wants to use an app that you developed independently, i.e. not-for-hire/commission, and you own the rights then you grant them a license to use the app. Or you can sell it to them or what ever you wish because you own the rights.
