How long to learn?

If I am looking to create a more complicated app like Thumb, or Pinterest, what's a reasonable time that someone could acquire the necessary developing skills to make an app such as these in? I am currently finishing the BTuniversity but still feel I have a lot more to learn before being able to make a complex app like the idea I have in mind.

Hi KingC., I (as you can see) are newer than you, but I will try help. I think most any with your experience can start on harder apps, but it will take more time and might have problems along the way. So I think you could start making hard apps, although it may be slow going and if you have hit a problem post it, and get help that way. It takes time and it can be frustrating, but it will probably get you there faster and help the knowledge stick. I've used this to learn many programming languages and hope it works for you on this! :) Good Luck! B-Tech.

Months. I took 6 weeks to work through some Obj-C tutorials. Then 6 weeks working through some iOS tutorials. This gave me the basics. I am now starting my second month of working on a BT pluggin. I can't stress enough how much working with BT has helped my learning process. It has really cemented my knowledge. As with all things YMMV. I had some (not a lot) experience working with C++ prior to this.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll just need to keep learning as much as possible.

Hi @KingCausey, Everyone is different so the time creating an App will vary. Soak everything in as you go along and post any questions/solutions you encounter in your journey. LA

Welcome! Good replies. You def want to start small with a simple app so that you get a feel for the whole process. Then just like anything, you expand on your knowledge and start building better stuff. Keep going with the BTU path - Davids videos and training are really amazing resources. You should be able to get a basic app built after the 1st track and then you'l see how the then next track gets into more detailed functions. The magic of BT is that you're getting the app framework and backend already set-up and ready for you to build on. Most standard app building tutorials have to start by building that framework. Once you grasp that concept and see it compared to building an app from scratch, BT will make more sense. think baby steps and lots of "Hello World" trials and error. best way to learn.
