PDF for iPad versus iPhone/iPod

Hey everyone! I brought this issue up once before, but never got a definitive response, so I figured I'd bring it back from the dead, hopefully to be resolved. ;) Basically, my app is mostly a collection of PDF files. I used Microsoft Word to type everything out (including diagrams) and simply saved them as .pdf files (standard 8 x 11). On the iPad, this looks great - no need to pinch and zoom and it's easily readable. On the other hand, iPhone/iPod devices usually require a pinch and zoom approach, turning to landscape view, or a mix of both for optimal viewing settings. How can I modify these PDF documents to accommodate the iPhone's/iPod's screen? A million thanks! Nicholas

I had a similar issue but I dealt with it differently. I saved all my word documents as .html files (ensuring I selected the "Save only Display information into HTML" under the Save As command) and inserted the code below into the header. <meta content="text/html; charset=UTF-8" http-equiv="Content-Type" /> <title>Title here</title> <meta content="width=device-width; initial-scale=1.0; maximum-scale=1.0;" name="viewport" /> <script type="text/javascript"> if((navigator.userAgent.match(/iPad/i))) { document.write("<link type=\"text\/css\" rel=\"stylesheet\" media=\"all\" href=\"ipadstyle.css\" charset=\"utf-8\" \/>"); } else if(navigator.userAgent.match(/iPhone/i)) { document.write("<link type=\"text\/css\" rel=\"stylesheet\" media=\"all\" href=\"iphonestyle.css\" charset=\"utf-8\" \/>"); } else { document.write("<link type=\"text\/css\" rel=\"stylesheet\" href=\"style.css\" \/>"); } </script>

That's some great insight, Iaxia! Hmm... do you know of any code that would work with PDF files in particular? The main reason I converted from Microsoft Word to PDF was because the diagrams wouldn't be properly shown in the app. Thanks again! Nicholas

No, not really. I don't know a lot about PDFs. I found the link below through, perhaps that will help. http://forums.adobe.com/message/4001754

Thanks for the help, Iaxia! Do you know what would be the best way to convert PDF or Word documents CONTAINING images to HTML format? Thanks a million! Nicholas

Hi Nicholas, Resurrecting an old post! Have you tried saving the documents as a webarchive? Do you see this option when exporting in your editor?
