App downloads from itunes store but will not open?

I have a few apps experiencing the same problem. When a user downloads the app from the apple app store, it downloads and the icon pops up on the phone but they can not open the app. A blnak screen comes up then goes away quickly. It seems to be devices that are running 5.something and not the newest ios. However, we build that apps to work with 4.3 and higher. Any advice?

Howdy, Have you made any recent changes to the app in your control panel? If so, then perhaps that has caused it to start crashing. Also...have you tested it recently in the iPhone simulator to see if you can repro the crash there? If so, there could be some good debug data in the console. Mark

I have a 3GS running 5.1.1. This has happened to me with two BT apps that have been posted in thi forum. All that proves is you are not alone @ridgerock, but I thought I would share.

It would be nice to figure this out! But to do so, we really need info from the debug console or a crash report or something like that. We have the symptom - blank screen - but nothing to indicate why until we get more data. If people can repro this in their simulators, or sum up changes they've made to the app since the last time they knew it worked, we could start narrowing down the problem. Mark

Most likely it involves the architecture. Do you have it set for BUILD ACTIVE ARCHITECTURE ONLY? Perhaps it is the problem? Check these two post: http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?fid=60627E47FD5E4C28AA9EB9B&tid=60627E47FD5E4C28AA9EB9B http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=806F07765ED125480F1F116

Also look at http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=85CE2A07272CAC624FAA985 as I think @Kaybees app has similar symptoms

Could this be your problem? If you have added frameworks and libraries like the ones needed for parse and other services you may need to set the libraries to 'optional' rather than 'required'. Especially if you use the 'social.framework' which will crash some devices running iOS 5. This happened to me yesterday when I updated an iphone app which ran on iphone 5 (ios 6) and iphone 4 (ios 5), all went well but when I ran it on the ipad it crashed every time and the 'icon popped' then crashed. From the parse website "If you're targeting iOS versions less than 6.0, you'll need to make AdSupport.framework, Social.framework, and Accounts.framework optionally-linked." Hope this helps!

Somebody should write up a tutorial document on including frameworks and libraries...hint, hint! And I'm not talking about me! ;-)

@ictguy -- thats so true. for 4.3 those libraries are required to be set as optional.. @GoNorthWest -- looking forward to it :) -- just kidding! however, would the tutorial be sdk specific or entirely based on targeting the libraries less than iOS 6.x? Just curious because I honestly just follow directions when it comes to using third party sdks/libraries!

Well, I could do it but I'm not sure it would be coming from someone with lots of knowledge about this area ;) Just from someone who has made a few mistakes and lost hours on stack over flow!

@mysps...maybe it would just be a summary of what the various SDKs require? There are common ones that people seem to use often.

@mysps Perhaps we could put it up on a google doc and work on together? Just a thought!
