HS class needs help with plugin for math calculation

Hello! We are a high school class in Jacksonville Florida that is trying to create an app for our Forensic Science class. We want to know if there is already a plugin for calculating math formulas or if we would have to make that plugin or create the xcode for it. Is there a calculator plugin already? We need to calculate ratios of two different values that match the value of sine, cosine, and tangent. We are trying to create an ios app that will go with our lab of determining the angle of blood splatters. So we would need to divide the width by length of the blood drop. Also, is it possible to use the camera on the device to measure the blood drop? We have recently become a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) school, and thought it would be cool to create an app for our devices. But we are brand new at this, so any help would be very welcome. Thanks in advance for any help you can give! Dr. Sowell's Forensic Science class

The calculator sounds hard, but I will do what I can to help! I am very interested in making educational apps and plugins.

Hi @millerl7, Hello and welcome! That sounds interesting and fun. I tried to get the calculations for Area and Angles but did not find the different functions to put them in a calculator as I am trying to create one. There are many websites out there that have the different calculations of L/W. If you search on google for contractors, you will find calculators that determine the angle of different rooms and pitch degrees of a roof or even a pitch degree of a wheelchair ramp could work to determine the angle of blood splatters. I also researched one calculator that had a "light" coming out of it to determine angle and if the board or material was level and that could be another area to look at also. All of these were downloadable, I hoped I helped some and gave you a few ideas. LA

As LA said, do some searching online. If you can find an HTML calculator on line you can drop that right into the HTML plugin. I have done it with a basic function calculator, but what you are looking for might be a little harder to find. Maybe you can brake it down into more manageable parts? Jim

Hello Dr. Sowell's Forensic Science class! Welcome to buzztouch! Forensic science rocks! If I wasn't doing what I'm already doing for a living, that would be my next choice of careers. Very cool stuff! As LA and Jim have already alluded to, using Javascript in HTML is probably the quickest way to get a calculator up and running. You could Google and get tons of examples to show you the way. Nobody has quite come up with a calculator plugin yet, but maybe you guys can! Mark

Sounds like a great idea! There's actually a video tutorial for creating a simple iPhone calculator in XCode. If you download the iTunes University class on iPhone Development from Stanford University, the 2nd or 3rd lecture video is a full walkthrough for a very simple calculator. You should be able to use the concept to do something a little more advanced. That can then be integrated in with a Buzztouch iPhone app very easily. Chris http://www.churchphoneapps.com

Hi guys, "Nobody has quite come up with a calculator plugin yet". Actually I made a calculator plugin a while ago!, surprised you guys hadn't seen it! https://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=416AA912CF3C3320A211302 Maybe set for a release sometime next month? My clients already have access to it. Maybe something for your use., but not sure if you need more advanced calculations? Cheers all, David https://buzztouchmods.com

Thank you SO much everyone!!!! This has definitely urged us and inspired us to continue. Over break we will search for HTML calculators and watch those video tutorials. David, will you be posting your calculator plugin here on buzztouch when it is available for release? Could you please let us know when it is available? Keep us in mind if you see anything else that may help us. We are feeling a bit over our heads, but are full of determination! :) Thanks again to all of you for responding and helping a group of awesome Juniors and Seniors here in sunny Florida. Dr. Sowell's Class, When we all started, we felt in over our heads but you just dive in and make mistakes and learn from them. As a former teacher, if I can assist in anyway, just shoot me an e-mail on here. LA
