Welcome to bt. To set a background image first of all you will have to go to the app on your control panel and then click the blank screen that you created. In the blank screen page click Screen Background Image option and set the image name in the Image File Name field. Remember that the name of image should be of small case coz eclipse does not understand capital case of letters. Now in the eclipse open your project file. You will find a folder named res--->drawable. Now put the image you created in the drawable folder either by dragging and droppin it or by copy pasting it. Thats it but remember the image name should match the one you put in the control panel in the blank screen settings.

What benefit is there loading the file by copy pasting into eclipse rather than upload the file to BT ?

You can upload all the project files from the Files / Media section which can be found in the apps control panel. The thing is when you download the source code for your project, all those referred files/images will also be included in the project with the downloaded source code in their respective folders. This can be helpful for some new users but directly copy pasting is preferred by most users since it saves lot of time.

Lots of time? Never seemed to take particularly long to download source code. But I can see where you are going.
