best iOS test device?

So what do buzztouchers think is the best value iOS test device, and why? Not necessarily the cheapest, or the one you'd most want as a consumer, but the best value for testing the kind of apps you're making... If you could only own one... And, will the iphone 5S come out in June instead of Sept next year? Hmm...

I'll answer the last question first! Who knows. Rumours are that Apple are going for a faster refresh this cycle. It they are just rumours. The best option? Buy an iPhone 5. Budget limited get a previous generation iPod, you do need a real device for testing, needn't be the latest and greatest but if you have an up to date Mac you get all the lastest and older simulators to test on. Money no option? Buy an iPad and iPhone 5. Money an issue ( when isn't it) get an iPod touch and use sims for latest builds. Have a good un! MacApple.

I test on a 3GS. My Flurry analytics report shows me that 20% of app users are still running ios 4.2.1, so I like to see how/know it works on those older devices myself. I also test on an ipod touch and do a lot of off-line testing to see how the app behaves offline.

Thanks for sharing guys. I have absolutely no apple products at the moment as have been using friend's stuff and was previously all pc and android... But the apple products have been growing on me as I've been developing for them. I'm gradually switching over now.
